The Brotherhood - an alliance between a North American Mafia family and a South American drug cartel- could spell doom for a newly free Russia. Fearing that a sudden crime wave might shift the balance of power back to Communism, the U.S. President sends in the man who single-handedly had come close to destroying the Mob in America. A man who represents ultimate justice, within or beyond the law. With his cover blown by a leak traceable to the highest levels of Russian security, Mack Bolan is forced to go solo, with Mafia hitmen and cartel killers burning a trail of bullets and blood from Moscow to the Black Sea coast. But the Executioner's commitment to run his prey to ground and out of business stands firm - against an enemy with limitless resources and stakes big enough to wage all-out war.

Bucket load of villains here with the Mafia, Columbian cartel, ex KGB hierachy and some Russian chaff there are more than enough bad guys. Very good characters included the Russian president's aide's alcoholism and his relationship with an old time hard core KGB guy. His offsider a woman with her off work life and her doings on surveillance are fine reading , the Don (he remembers and he knows what is coming), the arrogance of the cartel guy and it sets up beautifully. The ending is excellent with the suck in to the hospital very nice writing indeed, action abounds and this title will certainly keep you entertained. Highly recommended reading.

This novel takes place in Russia, not long after the beginning of capitalism there, and Bolan's mission is to take out the New Brotherhood before they establish a foothold of organized crime in the country. This is an outstanding undercover role Bolan plays, and VanCook writes one of his best books yet with Onslaught. I liked the settings and mood VanCook captures as Bolan travels around the former Soviet Union, and Bolan's undercover adventure is gripping and even a little suspenseful, as he uses about three different alias, switching between them as needed. I found the characters in this book to be well drawn and interesting, both the good guys and the bad, and the sub-plots with Leskov and Solomentsev were great scenes. Jake Pool was one of the more unusual villains I've read in the series. A guy who thought he was the reincarnation of Wild Bill Hickock made an odd, but colorful badguy. I've read better endings, but with a book this good, I have to give it a top score. The writing is superb from the very beginning, and the flow of the story and the action and storyline always had me captured in the adventure and turning the pages. I recommend this novel as one to grab as it is one of the better SuperBolans I have read, and it is now 13 years old already, but if found on a used bookstore shelf, it is a great book to add to your Executioner reading list.

Organized crime is trying to expand into new territory -- the newly capitalistic Russia. In an effort to avoid a throwback to communist days, the Russian president has Bolan work undercover for him, blitzing the mob before it can get a foothold. Ehh. Premise was good, especially with the fact that a turncoat working for the Russian president meant that Bolan was on his own for most of the book. The "lone wolf" concept should have been better than it was. As it turned out, the book was just not terribly interesting. Bolan had far too easy of a time operating in a foreign country with no allies. The villains were caricatures, not well developed. Overall, this one had potential, but just kind of fizzled into boredom and abscurity.

This is an outstanding action packed book that left Bolan in a situation where he knew parts of the mystery puzzle but not all of them with a Russian trator running things and pulling strings making Bolan a target all around Russia with the wild man Jake Pool on his tail who believes he is an old western gunslinger. It was very hard to let this book down until it was finished as there was never a slow and boring moment in it!!!!!

One of my favorite SuperBolans. The part where he snuck onto the ship and blew it up was superb. I really liked how kind he was to the sex slaves, this book showed Bolan's kind side well in that part. It made you understand how deeply he still felt about his kid sister, Cindy. I couldn't stand Jake Pool's character however. The quicker Mack finished him off the better as far as I was concerned.

This was just a decent read. I really liked the character of Jake Pool, who thought he was John Wesley Hardin. He shore got hisself good and plugged!
