It's the little things that matter. For instance, many of these books feature a prologue where we meet a character and then he gets plugged by the Bad Guys and we never hear of him again. Here the prologue death is actually weaved through the entire tale and given closure at the end. Throw in the memorable storyline and attention to detail and we have one of the strongest entries yet seen.

This book read like a premature ejaculation. The possible presidential involvement was disturbingly ho-hum, with nowhere near the emotional involvement of the epic #100. Also, since Mack should be well into his fifties at this point, I was rather hoping Gold Eagle would give him a blaze of glory to go out in. But we're still lapping up the books, so....

I grabbed a couple dozen Executioner titles at a library used-book sale when I was in sixth grade, recognizing immediately that they held hours of fun within. This was the first one I read, while on a canoeing trip with my father and sister. (I dropped it in the Rainbow Reservoir, but continued reading unperturbed.) As such, I have a real soft spot for it, and any praise I bestow upon it bears the risk of overinflation. Having said that, this story progressed by the numbers-- brutal, efficient, and quick (dig that large type!)-- like "The Bastard" himself. Great stuff!
