In a grimy bistro on the north side of Buffalo, a few American mobsters are dining with a Canadian contact when death bursts through the door. His eyes icy, his clothes pitch black, Mack Bolan takes out every American at the table but lets the Canadian live. Andre Chebleu is an undercover operative who has come across the border to infiltrate the American syndicate, and Mack Bolan will need his help if he is going to save Canada from the mob.
His endless war against the forces of the Mafia have made most of America unsafe for organized crime, so Bolans enemies have set their sights on Quebec, where radical separatists have destabilized the local government. Only Bolan and Chebleu can rescue Montreal from chaos and save the Great White North from becoming a living hell.

This book really didnt do it for me that much. I really didnt find the affairs of Canada that Interesting. But I do remeber hearing about there economic problems when I was a kid on the news. Anyway the best part of this book was Mack's inpersonation of the black ace. I give it 6 Stars for that.
This one starts off ok with a Big Guy blitz and the rescue of non the less than Andre Chebleu the brother of Georgette one of the Rangers who was unfortunately destined to be one of the Turkeys on the Big Guys mind for eternal time.
But that is where it ends pages and pages of crap on relations between Canada and the Us building up to a Mob summit in a Hotel in Montreal where bosses from the World Wide Mafia are attending.
Bugger me I was thinking I was reading title 4 Miami Massacre where the same thing happened and there was a secret tunnel of passages throughout the old hotel allowing access to individual rooms where the Big Guy could basically come and go as he pleases and take out who he wants. I was thinking where is Margarita and are we going to read where the Cuban expatriates are going to attack in a boat soon.
Lots of padding here where Leo and Hal come into the reckoning but basically do nothing as the Big Guy is impersonating a Black Ace again (rack up another stupid point for the bad guys) and he infiltrates the hotel.
Enter Betsy Gordon probably one of the most wishy washy characters introduced in the series to date who manages to hold up the Big Guy mid campaign and allows the QF resistance fighters time to assemble as well.
What was shaping up as a good finale nose dived into the abyss of rubbish what a shame.
Certainly not a title to recommend here this time from this series.
Another great Pendleton story...the third really good one in a row. Bolan goes north of the border to address a major developing story: the mafia looking for world-wide influence and control. As with books 22 & 23, Canadian Crisis is not the normal mafia war that we saw in the first 21 books. Pendleton tells a unique story regarding world-wide implications, a Canadian revolution, and familiar faces from previous stories.
The mafia is trying for a big takeover, a revolutionary group is seeking to take Quebec, and Mack Bolan is in the middle of it all. To assist, we not only see same familiar faces, such as Leo and Hal, but we also see an older familiar face -- Andre Chebleu.
There is intrigue, superb action sequences, and great character development. The pacing of the book is flawless and this is another overall great book to recommend.
I had read other comments about the "20's" being less than stellar reads. Up until this book I would have to agree with that. Fortunately this book had a little more life to it along with a pretty interesting story. In a change for Executioner books up to this point, I found myself laughing out loud several times during it and really enjoyed the larger role that Leo had here. The part where he first runs into Mack at the hotel is classic! I got through this in less than a day a it was definitely a nice surprise after chugging through the last few books that were very cookie-cutter in format.
First Bolan book I have ever read. Great pulp action, that brings back memories from the old time pulp fiction series as Doc Savage, The Spider, The Shadow, and many others...
This is the kind of story the deceased Don Westlake (Richard Stark), author of the Parker novels, would have enjoyed.
The relation among Bolan and Quebec's FLN seems a little weird to me, since the Executioner will later fight against terrorists, but well...
I think this novel is a plain precedent to films like "Die Hard"; just think of an action hero in a building, and surrounded by thugs... and how total action developes.
Now, I become a Mack Bolan fan and collector.
Regards from Spain.
(It's a pity there's no Spanish translation of The Executioner's books...)
What could be better than taking almost the whole Mafia and putting them in Quebec. With the help of Leo and passage ways in the walls of the hotel, Mack starts taking out the whole group at the same time they think he is one of them. This book is full of action from start to finish. Good read.
Being a Canadian I found this book to not only be accurate in it's depictions of the Quebecois but also a damn good read. I also enjoyed seeing more of Leo Turrin in this book as I think he is a terrific character. The plot was fast and hard hitting and was one or the better ones in the Mafia wars.
I wonder why I keep reading these Mafia war books as I rarely come a cross a good one or even a rather good one . So did I like this one? Hardly!!!!!!
The pace was good yet the story line was sometimes unrealistic like the secretl tunnels at the hotel and Bolan´s penetration through the Mafia defense.. Why couldn´t the Maffia boys recognize Bolan as Mr. Ruggi? Surely they must have a detailed description of his face or so I would have thought!!!!!!
One thiing made the book a better one than it actually was and that Leo Turrin´s involvement in Bolan´s war this time around since he has been way too often in a small cameo role in the books but this time around he is on the front line with Bolan fighting and fooling the Mafia back to back. Their friendship and mutual admiration is special and it always lifts the books up to a personal and special level in Bolan´s lonely war.
The formula for the Mafia book is here; Bolan penetration, Bolan fooling the stupid Mafia boys, The Mafia being very secure that they can finally capture Bolan and traditional shootout in the end so there wasn´t really much new here as most of the Mafia books are the same from the first page to the last one. I keep hoping to read a great Mafia war book but I wonder if that happens? (2003)
This is one of the most solid Pendleton/Mafia era novels, full of action cover to cover.
The pacing is very good.
An excellent story.
Mack Bolan kicking ass.
It's all here.

A recent addition to my collection. Older, but thoroughly enjoyable. Got a bit more of an insight into the way Mack's mind works. Also got a laugh when Leo Turrin was referred to as "Leo The Pussy." I sure as hell wouldn't describe him as a pussy. But then again, in my experience, if you back a "pussy" into a corner, it's usually a big mistake! (As it was here) Don't believe me? Then read the book. Leo and the big guy (Mack) are two men I'd trust to watch my back any day.
I enjoyed this one very much, the best story since Jersey Guns, this is one of those must read mafia war books. Pendleton was kinda inconsistent around this time, this is one of his best ones.
Another great outing by Don Pendleton. I loved the way Bolan ended his strike in Canada with a bit of R&R with Betsy. It was also nice to meet Georgette's brother, Andre.
When the mafia tries for a big takeover in Quebec, Mack Bolan comes to town to bury their plan and their soldiers.
The action starts off smartly with a Bolan hit on a minor mobster's nightclub and a pursuit by another crew. Then plot and suspense take over for most of the middle half of the book. But when the action picks up again for the finale it kicks out all the stops and roars in like a hurricane. Along the way the Executioner has to balance some new alliances and try to sort out everybody's loyalties.
Leo is on hand for most of the action and the pairing of the big guy and the undercover cop adds some more tension to this story. A good mix of hellfire action and intrigue. This one was very enjoyable and I think it deserves 9 stars.
One of the more original stories. Good entry.
