A bloodbath aboard a celebrity-packed yacht leaves the daughter of a high-ranking politician dead. Going undercover as a DEA official, Mack Bolan probes what appears to be a drug deal gone bad. But as kilos of high-grade heroin flood Los Angeles, Bolan's investigation exposes something worse than business as usual for local gangs and dirty politicians. The trail leads to Jakarta and the Golden Dragon, a drug lord with his hands deep in the pockets of officials- and an agenda that goes beyond white powder and cold hard cash. The Executioner hammers the opposition with a vengeance, savaging the Dragon's stranglehold on the drug trade ... and enraging a powerful enemy whose mission stops nothing short of full-blown terror.

What started out to be your "drug dealer of the month" story turned into a very intriguing plot. Bolan hits L.A. to shut down a drug operation, then meets up with a spunky female police captain. Then it's off to Jakarta to hit the source of the drugs...but, wait, there's more to it than just drugs. Brognola lends a hand when Bolan departs L.A. and his arc with the police captain was fairly solid. Guenther's action scenes are also very solid. The only negative was the extremely weak wrap up with the main villains. But, nonetheless, a solid story and a nice change of pace.

At the start of this I must admit I thought to myself oh no not yet another shut down a drug pipeline story. No there is quite a good plotline running in this where due to circumstances behind the scenes with the complete Stony Man organization at risk of being closed we find Hal into the action scenes. Good writing here where he is even questioning himself in the field whilst under enemy fire AND he falls on his arse so we find out at the end <funny>. The previous reviewer Carboni pointed out why if you had Phoenix Force available or Able Team for that matter why would the author not use these members. Further why would you not as an author utilise the skills of the highly trained blacksuits from Stony Man Farm? I mean come on what are we training these guys for? That aside this is a pretty good read in the series plot is nicely rounded out at the end and enough to keep you turning the pages.

I was surprised on how much of it was not set in Indonesia. This, and a few other twists, one I did not see at all, provided a good framework of a story here. I was also surprised throughout of the weak rationalizations. For example: with Phoenix Force in town, ready to go, why would Bolan use them as backup and have local talent to be his wingmen. I have problems with this in other books, not from this author, but it is something I can justify it as keeping character count low. Or possibly it implies that new characters from one-shot books are more compelling because they can die. But the logic is faulty, leaving one of the best anti-terrorist teams in the world on the side, wanting to instead make a go at it with some rookies. Unlike the other reviewers here, I will not fault the author for wrapping it up quickly in the last chapter, the change of prose worked for me. This is an slightly above average entry, but a must for Brognola fans, whoever you are.

Hello! I just finished "Dragon's Den" last weekend, and overall, I found it to be a very good read. I really liked the idea of "Golden Dragon" err..a DEA agent funniling drugs into the US to present a target for Islamic terrorists to attack the Feds when they come to spring their trap. Very well thought out! The action was awesome, but what burned me up was the ending! It's like the author ran out out of room, and had to wrap up everything in 1 page! Arrgh! But besides that, I liked this book alot, especially Hal getting back out in the field with the female LASD Captain. Overall, it's worth reading, I give it an 8 out of 10. Thanks!

Overall, I thought this was another good book by Jon Guenther. Yes it had standard stuff, international drug pipeline and action throughout. It also had a couple of unexpected twists and had Brognola and Grimaldi in action as well. It kept my interest and action flowed throughout. The rescue scene by Bolan in the end was a little rushed, but I enjoyed the book.
