I just read this book after twenty-eight years. Aspects of it have held up well and parts are actually very ironic. Especially the Pakistan situation at the beginning. but in 1981 nobody could have foreseen the collapse of the U.S.S.R. and 9/11. And of course like all this type of fiction parts of it are pure fantasy. John Thomas Rourke is definitely the predecessor to John Rambo. And one of the weak points is that Rourke is too good to be true. A doctor, weapons expert, survivalist, mercenary (and he really is), pilot, and independently wealthy.That is really quite a man. Where did he find all the time for all those accomplishments? Nevertheless it seems plausible that Rourke can do everything that he does.Well almost all of it. He is also a very lucky man. How many people could ride into a group of forty bikers and calmly gun them down without taking even one single hit? Or shoot down a dozen bikers with a bolt action rifle with not even one of the bikers escaping? John Thomas Rourke is all man. The first few novels worked, but either I got older or the world's political situation just dated the series. The last several books wandered far from the original concept and were pure Science Fiction/Fantasy novels. Nevertheless the first few books in the series still hold ones attention even if they are relics of the Cold War.

this is the best book,so far!!! i hated to see another woman in bolan's life die.bolan mourns for the the most beautiful,trustful,caring woman in his life.bolan shows that he isn't immune to tragedy in his life,but the determination to make their enemies pay!!! bolan is the man i want to be!!!
