I remember reading this book in the course of one night. I could not put it down and finished it in the daylight. The descriptive narrative is outstanding. It was not often this era of Executioner so effectively projected the reader into a scene. Some of the characters are a bit stilted, but the human component between Bolan and the female protagonists, the conflicts between them as well as their alliance not only make for compelling reading but were a definitive reflection of U.S.- Soviet relations at the time. This is a great book and I encourage anyone who has yet to read it to find one and give it a try. Be prepared for a very cold winter in Russia.

I remember reading this book vividly after 19 years. It stands out among the "New War" novels because of its domesticity, the character development and the dual plot and contrivances. It's an outstanding work and deserves the praise it seems to be receiving. For those reviers who did not enjoy it, my suggestion would be to read the series from #39 onwards if you have not done so already. In the context of the series, books like Savannah Swingsaw and Prairie Fire as well as The Fire Eaters begin to stand out as serious, well done novels with a lot to offer. This one will always be an al time favorite of mine.
