Ok, let me start this one off... -1 Ok... The first fault... The plot was almost childish. Kill the US President, because he was making too much peace? This is exactly like that James Bond movie "Tomorrow Never Dies", which has an equally stupid plot. Very similar, actually... -1 The side characters. Johnson was an idiot, and how he became a top CIA official is beyond me. Schindler was cold hearted, but that doesn't mean that she can't have any personality! Luschenska wasn't special or intelligent, really, he just appeared that way because he was surrounded by stupidity (bribing the airport security doesn't make someone a genious!). The Swiss banker was going to die ever since he was first mentioned. I can't beleive he didn't see it coming. -1 Wayyyy to many people being introduced and killed. +1 The writing wasn't that bad. -1 The writer included way too much information about the weapons used. It's obvious that he just went to Google and typed in the weapon name, then wrote down all of the RPM and range statistics on the page. -1 The end was anti-climactic and boring. +1 In spite of everything, it was a quick read and I finished it faster than most Bolans I read. So starting at 5 stars, let's see what it gets now... -5 Brings it down to a 0... Then +2 brings it to a 2 star rating... Sorry Mr. North! -
My first Executioner book I ever read, and the only one I ever re-read. I really enjoyed it, and I wish that Alan will someday return and write another Executioner! Probably my favorite all time Executioner. -
Ok, let me start out by saying that this was an amazing book! definitely in my top 5! I'll get onto showing you why... +1 Some great writing here, I got a good sense of where Mack was, and who he was. +1 The side characters were so good! Machida turned out to be a pretty good guy, while Hogan (cool name) turned out to be an Evil, unstable guy. +1 Honey was realistic in the face of danger... Pretty much how I'd see myself acting. She didn't shoot up alot of bad guys, but she also didn't make any dumb mistakes! +1 The setting was great, and I liked how it didn't go all over the world for once. It was easier to follow this way. +1 The plot was simple at first, but got out of hand and messy... In a good way! I liked the scenes with the Mercenary/Yakuza team the best. +1 The end battle scene was great, although I actually prefered the smaller skirmishes along the line. +1 The use of swords and other older weapons. I usually get annoyed with swordfights, but this one was pretty well done, and the power of the sword wasn't overdone in the gun battles. So that brings the mark up to 12 stars! I can only give it 10, of course, but it's really a 12. Great work, I'm expecting great things from Doug's next book! (P.S. this justifies my ratings of some of his previous work! He is a good writer who is capable of writing stuff like this! That's why I can't settle for things like Suicide Highway! Keep it up!) -
I really don't agree with the first rating of this book, I really liked it. +1 For a mystery. I thought it was cool not knowing what was around each corner while reading this. -1 For an obsession with swords. Sorry, but swordfights are not really my thing... -1 For being a little unbeleivable. I found it hard to beleive Mack being accepted as the BMOC around a pirate camp in a matter of days. +1 For some humor. The Chinese guy, Ming I think, was quite strange and funny. +1 For a good plot, that thickens until the end. +1 For the writing. +1 For the fight scenes. -1 For the end fight. Kind of bored me. Too many swords. +1 For that fight scene before the end scene! The mini D-Day one! OK, so that comes out to an 8 star rating! The writers have been doing good work this year, I hope they keep it up! -
Ok, let's start things off... +1 Because of the premise of the book. The Ripper murders was a really cool idea. -1 Because the Ripper murders turned out to be a minor part of the book. +1 For a gripping beginning. I really like it when they throw you in with a character and you have no idea what's happening or why. -1 Because the SAS backup for a Ripper murderer seemed so cheesy to me. Later, when I discovered what they were up to, It made sense... But even so... +1 For the plot! Great complicated plot here! -1 For the side characters. Melissa Dean was annoying as hell! +1 For the final fight scene. I really enjoyed it! +1 For the writing. Ok, lets see... It starts with an automatic 5 stars... -3, so it goes down to 2 stars. then we add on 5, and it goes to a rating of 7! -
this is one of the worst executioners i have ever read, but i dont exactly know why. the action was a little boring, mainly since i didnt care about the characters. Mack Bolan was an empty tool used to hold a gun, no personality at all. i liked the sad guy, but i didnt really like the end where he died, it just wasnt satisfying. all in all this was just boring and took me way too long to read. -
Ill sum it up to being my favorite bolan book. AWESOME!!! i liked how bolan ended Iceman's life. they should make that book into a comic or TV series or movie or video game! that would rule! -
Ill do this mathematically: the rating will start at 5 stars and ill add or subtract from there... +1: The realism of the fake island was great. I liked how it gave a history and explained it a bit. Even had tie ins to WW2! +1: Bolan's allies were great. I liked the fat smuggler, Hithiti, and the Marine, "Red". -1: Calvin James was actually a very small part of this novel, and seemed to have absolutely no authority. +1: the enemy actually had a command structure and some plans and backup plans. -1: they re-did a few moments, like helicopter attacks and things. -1: the spy/reporter was badly handled and not a big part of the story. +1: the revolution was cool, since they really had to scrounge for any weapon possible and even had to make some pretty cool ones themselves. +1: the scale of the events was incredible, and the warlike parts let Bolan show his command strengths. -1: Bolan got injured too much at the end, yet still won in combat. +1: it was really unpredictable, and I didnt know who would live or die and what would work or not. +1: attitude. I see that there is not a limit of cusswords. I counted 39 uses of the "F" word. lets see...1+1+1+1+1+1+1=7-1-1-1-1=3. so that would mean I add the 3 to the already existing 5, equalling an 8. very good book. -
I loved this book, and all of the characters it introduces. i especially liked the mafia hitman that goes with Bolan. I found myself liking him, while it is interesting that bolan cant since he is still scum, no matter how honorable. this deserves a 10, if the had only made the ending less rushed. -
let me begin by saying that this was not a bad book. the character was Bolan and acted like him, the writing was good and descriptive. but there are a few negative points id like to bring up. 1: there were only around three action scenes in the whole book, making the rest of it just the thoughts and some dialouge from the people involved. 2: the cover was terrible since it shows a car explosion that never happens and more explosions by helicopters that also dont happen. there arent really that many explosions in the book, only about 3. 3: "a mission into Borneo takes an evil turn". the problem there is, it doesnt. this time, the mission pretty much goes as planned. there are no evil turns. 4: i wouldve liked to see more from Jason Claridge at the end, like if he gets kicked out of the SEALs or not. 5:there is one sloppy point where, in Jason's perspective, he refers to "Bolan" instead of "Cooper", and hes not supposed to know bolans name. 6:I wont spoil it now, but the end action sequence isnt that exciting. other than that id like to point out that it was pretty good, but not at all great. -
No! this book sucked, since it ended unresolved and had no sequel! also, it was really funny that the Unit 777 guy did a dramatic line TWICE and should have died the first time anyway. i laughed when i imagined that in some movie... anyway, the action was ok, but there was one more problem: the EXTREMELY cheesey line near the end "peace out yall". I mean, who says that in the military!!! ESPECIALLY in a non english speaking one! i wonder what that translates to in arabic? (do they even have a word for "peace"?) not that impressed, I usually like this guys writing. -
This was a pretty good end to the series, but there was just one main part that bugged me... Mack bolan has broken free from so many capture attempts and other things, yet here he is helpless. I like the tough Mack who kills people, not a guy sitting in a cage! and I wanted Mack to be the main Hero, not his brother! if i needed that i would have read something like "Jonny Bolan", not Mack Bolan. but i do love jungle combat, and this was cool enough. the combat wasnt as good as Agent of Perils jungle scenes, but good. and i did like finally getting to have the drug lords and that wierd dictator guy get killed! all in all, its OK.
