I enjoyed seeing Bolan on the run in a Stalinist police state. From the other reviews I can see some liked it, some didn't. What this tale has to offer is lots of tension as Bolan struggles to evade capture. It was an interesting peek behind the Bamboo Curtain.

I had a problem with this one - the evil bad guy is rarely featured! I was waiting and waiting to see him become more involved with the unfolding events but he never does. He's here and there but I found these appearances rare, brief and light. I can't complain about the firefights though, especially a shoot-out in the middle of a neighborhood between Bolan, a hit squad, and Russian secret service agents. Lots of lead, burning cars and crumpling bodies.

What stood out in this story was the absolute hatred Bolan feels toward those who perpetuate "America's most horrible plague." Dan S. takes us into Bolan's mind and shows the rage Bolan feels - it makes it so much better when the bad guys start falling to the ground with vacant eyes and open mouths . . .

As mentioned above, this book came close to being a great story. What made this book such an enjoyable read is Kirk's colorful and concise abilty to describe characters, places, and events without slowing the story. The effort put into researching the story shows: Peruvian geography, politics, and The Shining Path come to life in detail as information is sprinkled throughout the pages in descriptions and conversations. Bolan makes a friend who helps out here and there in this one.

I enjoyed the heck out of this Superbolan. Dan S. knows how to describe hard people making hard choices who die the hard way. Giving Bolan a partner was an interesting touch. It was great seeing Bolan hunt a group of thugs in a state to state slaughter fest. A solid offering from Dan S.
