Shock Waves

In the middle of the story the characters spend a lot of time in retrospect thinking of the past but other than those times the action is fast and fluid. Always enjoy a Newton story about the mafia.

This is an absolutely terrific book...thankfully after the #80 mess. The author brings back a Mafia scenario with many familiar faces. As always, I love the tie back to several Bolan-verse regulars - Sally, Hal... We also see a new antagonist with ties to a former...for a subtle story twist.

Whilst it is not necessary to enjoy this title if you had happened to have read Executioner #29 Command Strike prior to reading this one you would be aware of David Eritrea who attempted to pull the Mob together back in that title and have himself anointed as the King of all Capos with disasterous results when the Big Guy ripped their house down and to add a final kick in the guts set up Eritrea as a stool pigeon and informant forcing him to seek refuge in the hands of law officials. Needless to say that after numerous successful prosecutions with Eritrea as star witness the Good Guys are on a big roll and the surviving Capos are a little pissed to say the least. Enter Don Menelli the latest in a long line of Capo's who covet the throne and he has a very persuasive kicker to his pitch as he has managed to pluck Eritrea away from Law Enforcement officials grasp and is holding him to present at the gathering of Capos he hopes to sway to have him installed as The Big Guy. Add in the ultimate kicker as he will reveal who in fact he actually is related to and it seems he is holding all of the cards. Plot, plot, plot this is one of the best going around folks plucking numerous characters from the past and lining them up in this one title. My rating is based on what I have said above. For a change I have not deducted any stars for laziness on the author as he must have tired himself out coming up with this plot hence. No deductions for the production line stuff folks and it is all here, rattle those cages, the phone calls, the sniper scenes, the getting of opposing forces to distrust each other getting it on where the Big Guy can come in and clean up. My favourite ( come on not again ?) well Sally Palmer one of the Ranger girls is included in the title (wonder what part she plays in the story ?). As I said no deductions just a brilliant plot which carries the title through. Loved it recommended reading especially as usual if you have not read a lot of this authors work.

"Shock Waves" covers one 24 hour period in the hellgrounds with Mack Bolan as he moves to disrupt a mafia meeting aimed at consolidating all their dirty power under a new leader. Complicating matters are some good guys caught on the inside and marked for death by the mob. This book was a great pleasure to read. Excellent action and great characters in a pressure cooker of a story. I especially enjoyed the return to classic Bolan tactics. Hal is great in this one as are all the supporting characters but it's the Executioner himself who really made me enjoy this book. Bolan hasn't been so completely "right" for about 40 books. The action scenes are crackling with power and all the other pages of this story build tension and flesh out characters. I don't think I could find any difference between this book and any of Don Pendleton's best mafia war stories. And if that isn't worth 10 stars I don't know what is!

This book was a rather good Mafia war book compared to the other dull Mafia books I have read so far. Bolan´s penetration into the Mafia coronation and how he managed to pit the Mafia families against each other keeping them on their toes by raiding them one by one in a fast blitz of attacks was great and the highlight of the book as this brings the coronation ceremony to a trembling grounds while the Mafia boys are running around like headless chickens. Sounds nice but still I can´t get into the Mafia books in general................I wonder why?? The pace of the action was almost non-stop without being too much or senseless till the end when all the Mafia bosses were wiped out almost in a single blow. This is the best Mafia books that I have read so far but still there must be a better one out there that waits for my reading. At least I hope so................ (2003)

This was one excellent Newton novel and a truly fine mafia tale. This is a continuation of Pendleton's mafia saga. I loved that they brought back Sally from Mack's old days. Now she is a moll for the Seattle boss. The Marinello family line was strange but fitting. It seems that Augie was one randy Mafia don. The action was top-notch. I do wish that not every mob boss was wiped out. I would have liked to have been wiped out. I did like the scene when they realized Mack was back. Until then I liked how they blamed the Marinello for attacking them but then they were not entirely sure. Overall matches with the best of Pendleton's Newton really matched his style and story perfectly. A 10.

Great title, great cover, great story. One of my favorites from Newton, this is a kick butt nonstop page turner. This book reminds me of Command Strike, it involved wasting several of the top mafia goons in one strike.

Tis one was excellent. The story had enough action, plot and series history to keep it moving along smoothly right to the end.

ONE OF MY NEWTON FAVORITES AS WELL. IT WAS COOL HOW THEY BROUGHT BACK HISTORY IN THIS ONE FROM BOLAN'S GOOD OL' MAFIA DAYS. IT WAS EVEN BETTER SEEING THEM GET WIPED OUT IN THE END. TWO THUMBS UP!

One of..if not thee finest Newton has done. Great action. Read it awhile back so I'm kinda shadowy on it...But I remebered I loved it. So 3 Shells outta 5 ( Just cause I can't fully remember it )

One of my personal favorites as far as Mike Newton goes. Explosive from beginning, to the wipeout of Mafia bosses in the end.
