I never thought I would read a dull Destroyer novel but I have now. This book seemed like a novelette then a novel. There was not much to the book and worst the book contradicted book 1 with the meeting with MacCleary. It was nice seeing Remo's Vietnam past meet his present life with the insane commander of the monastary. But it seemed forced how Remo had a flashback about his days in Vietnam before he sees the commander. The villians were dull and the humor limp. Chiun believed Smith really sent them to Santa Fe so he could meet a soap opera actress. Yes the scene when he did encounter her was funny. The only good part was the story of Wang the Great and how he became great. I liked the story. It was nice reading more about the great Wang. But that only lasted 3 pages. There is a rather strong sadistic violent scene where a nude woman was being stoned with rocks and there was a sexual aspect to it. It was a bit too graphic - thank god only about 3 paragraphs. I don't mind buckets of blood and Remo/Chiun knocking bad peoples heads off but sadistic violence is not my cup of tea especially against innocent women. I wouldn't go out and buy this book. It does not take long to read - two sittings 2.5 hours total. But other Destroyer books are far better.
