Evil Alliance

This is a terrific read which is paled a tad by his previous releases but a worthwhile entry to the series none the less. Good storyline and plot which will keep you entertained with an interesting villian to meet. An alliance with a Mafia family to create a new pipeline into the States for drugs and weapons and it has all the makings folks. The thing that got me in with this title is some of the terrific characters introduced with side plots from the main storyline. The computer designer of the Stealth sub is classic and his story was almost worth the read by itself. Add in a North Korean Colonel and his team with their initial meeting with the Big Guy and subsequent meetings and you know you are reading something good. And the Giant bodyguard of the Bad Guy you just know that Mack will be into a physical confrontation with him before the end of the title and so it is and is some fine reading indeed. Excellent finish and this is a highly recommended read here.

I really loved this book for one main reason - great characters and humor. I loved the fact there was a good female villian called Madame Rhee. Wish there were more scenes with her though. I also wished Mack had dealt with her and not Hal who had were arrested. Cruel sadistic woman. Sin Fang was also a very good villian. Very tough and believable. He wasn't all evil but really cared about his nephew and Kon-Li. Walker who basically thought with another piece of anatomy was a funny character especially when he decided to be a hero and realized that the brothel was not all he thought it was - especially the women. It was also nice seeing an interesting "ally" in Hin. His scenes with Soh were very funny. Hin was an honorable North Korean government killer who teamed up rather believably with Mack because they were both hunting down the same man. Kiri Tanaka looked like she would have been a fun character but since she is in War Load which I think I will read next I will hold judgement. I tend not to like SM novels since too many seem like dragged out 220 page novels but this had a large cast of characters - very good characters and humor to lighten the book up. Also I liked the fact that Mack had to think through the fights and not fight 12 men at once and have hundreds off misses but Mack gettin all of them. He was more a hunter/stalker slowly eating away at the enemy and not just blasting in. It makes him a far more believable character. Does Robbins know what a cell phone is? His books tend to be absent them. Hope War Load is different.Although in Invisible Invader in 2001 he also left out this device and there it was just absurd. I hate giving 10s and it would have gotten a 9 but it made me laugh in a few spots and Madame Rhee was a fun villian. Actually all the characters were believable and had depth something too many books lack.

Another riveting book by this writer, with strong attention to detail and outstanding characterization. I read this after I read WAR LOAD, and had no idea that WAR LOAD was actually Kerri Tanaka's second appearance. EVIL ALLIANCE is her first, and it sets up a lot of the emotional interplay that takes place in WAR LOAD. Wish I hadn't missed this the first time around. Bolan is as lethal as ever. As usual, this author has a knack for including killer scenes where Bolan is up against formidable odds or a particularly vicious bad guy. In this case, it's a North Korean engine of destruction. Their climatic fight is great. I also liked how the North Koreans and the Mafia were linked. That's a unique touch we haven't seen before. Some SuperBolans tend to drag a bit but this guy's never do.

The plot of this one didn't seem to be anything special. Just a by-the-numbers adventure with average action scenes. The one thing I was looking forward to and wasn't disappointed, was Bolan's battle with a Korean giant.

I had been looking forward to this one and it wasn't a disappointment. Sure it is by the numbers, but the plot is creative and the bad guys,(especially Sin Mak-Fang and Kon-Li) are well drawn and vibrant. Bolan isn't perfect, he makes some mistakes,but this made him more human and believable to me. Evil Alliance, made up for the last few Super Bolan books. Worth the time and fun to read.
