Flesh Wounds

This book did not seem like a Bolan book. There was just a variety of stuff that seemed out of place in an Executioner book. There were so many references to things you don't see in a series book...Bolan boxing, Little League World Series, TV shows and singers, a birthday party for Hal, and Bolan wanting to see a Willie Nelson song. Strange. The plot was okay, but I do thing the April Rose use was off the theme of the series through "50s" (book #s). Since she was just severely wounded in Europe, I can't see how Bolan would so willingly use her throughout the last half of this novel. It doesn't jive with Mack's attitude in the couple preceding books.

this book is truly memorable. There is so much going on in the story, like for example there is a scene where bolan goes toe to toe with a professional boxer, goes up against psychos named J.D. Dante and his sidekick Bleeder, the sinsister Fydor Zossimov and super villian known as Detriot. April Rose is lovely in this one, I could really feel her characeter; a tough yet loving warm perfect woman entitity. And of course Mack Bolan super bad ass kicking ass wherever he goes, from the very fist scene in the bar to blasting away J.D. dante at a Waylon Jennings Willie Nelson concert. Awesome !! from 1-10 **10**

Nah this title did very little for me let me tell you. April Rose is captured (yet again) requiring the Big Guy to rescue her (yet again) and after she is rescued she has amazingly been transformed into a super agent equal to the Big Guy and along with him for the mission <cough>. Basically that was enough for me I knew from then that this title would be a plodder and even though I was a little biased there are plenty of better titles to read in this series than this offering. The plot is okay with the sign writing planes going to drop a deadly chemical rain storm onto the half million crowd assembled for a country and western festival with massive deaths to ensue. Over and over in the last few titles we have read again and again how the Big Guy is jaded with the Stony Man system and his allegiance to the Government and how he wants to be out alone by himself to do his own thing and even though that is alluded to again here in this title we have him paired with his squeeze in the field. Didn't work for me folks I am afraid this one was ordinary at best.

Is it me or did April Rose spend more time being captured than she did accually doing work ? I figure the character, with the red hair and penchant for being abducted was obviously based upon Scooby Doos , Daphne. This was just a so so book, in my books, the Plot was a little generic and the whole contry and western festival seemed kinda silly. Some good action and April wasn't as annoying as normal. Bolan stepping in the ring and holding his own against a pro boxer was again, kinda weak. Eh Kay says, ok .

What can I say?? Basically a very good book from start to finish which is a personal one focusing on the relationship and feelings between Bolan and April with the added element of a very good flow of action. The story line and the plot moved along well and consistent to the end of the book. The book was great and it kept my attention the whole time and to the last few pages and didn´t have any dull, low moments. I really like Obstfeld as a writer as those few books he has written about Mack Bolan have been overall very good and it would have been interesting to have more books from this author instead of some of the other ones who keep turning out lame book time and time again. It was great to have April in full action in this book side by side with Bolan and not like the whimpering blockhead she was portraited in Paradine´s Gauntlet. Here she was a determined crime fighter with extremely interesting back gound and she really kicked as in the book and gave it a special yet personal edge to the story. This is a highly entertaining book.......... so read it and enjoy. (2005)

I love the cover, and it's another entertaining book from Obstfeld. Kind of a quirky bunch of villains, the author writes some interesting stuff.

"Flesh Wounds" begins with Mack Bolan looking for April Rose. She hasn't made contact since she went out to meet some survivalist loony that she knew who might be a lead. Sure enough she's been captured and Bolan has to rescue her. The story starts off kind of goofy but really picks up after the rescue of April. She stays on the mission with Bolan as they try to locate the would-be leader of a reborn Weathermen terror group, learning along the way that he and a KGB terror expert have a big event in the works. The story stays good all the way until the final confrontation with the KGB bad guy, which turns kind of silly again. Bolan seems OK here but he spends a lot of time worrying about April. And although she wasn't nearly as annoying as she has been in the past, she makes the story less enjoyable by her silliness and her effect on Bolan's thinking. The rest of the characters encountered are OK. One undercover fed in particular is top-notch but only briefly seen. The bad guys are bad enough, though they're mostly mean punks except for the Russian. The action is good though not as frequent here as in some of the Executioner adventures. Still, the long stretch when Mack and April are in the clutches of some terrorists pretending to be outlaws on the lam is pretty tense. It would have been nice to see Mack use some weapons other than his Beretta though. Especially during some assaults. Oh, well. For a book with April Rose in it from very nearly the beginning, this one was pretty good. The opening and payoff weren't as good as the middle. If they had been this would have been an 8 star book. As is, I rate it a 7 star effort.

A DECENT READ. GOOD TO SEE APRIL IN THE FIELD WITH MACK.

THE VILLANS ARE EASY TO REMEMBER IN THIS BOOK BECAUSE THEY ALL SEEM SO UNIQUE. IT'S GOOD TO SEE MACK AND APRIL FIGHTING SIDE BY SIDE ONCE AGAIN. ANOTHER FAVORITE OF MINE FROM THE OLD DAYS, GOOD FROM THE TIME THAT BOLAN TRIES TO SAVE APRIL TO ITS BREATHTAKING CONCLUSION. TOTALLY EXCITING!!!

This was a great book. It had a great story and kept me reading for a day straight...Also April Rose is introduced...Personally...She Bores me..But whatever, It had great action and kept the reader wanting To keep reading... I give it 3.5 shotgun shells outta five

Slick, stylish writing. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Bolan is excellent working alone and also with April Rose. There are memorable moments in the story that are suprisingly vivid and well-paced. A classic, by all means, Flesh Wounds is a great addition to your Mack Bolan collection. Stay Hard.

A good one to see April Rose in action. Enjoyable!
