Amazon Slaughter

I give this book 6 stars. The only thing that really stands out about this book for me was Lyons going Native, and fighting the whole time with a loin cloth on. Funny stuff! But over all average.

hey, not bad at all! Another wierd mission for the boys as they go 'Apocalyptica' style deep into the heart of the Amazon to shut down a Plutonium enrichment operation commandeered by Khmer Rouge exiles and a band of international scumbags. It was very entertaining watching Lyons sucuumb to native traditions and dawning warpaint as he turns into 'Rambo on mescaline'. lots of cool action scenes and combat tactics and strong support provided by Thomas Jefferson Xavante (an indian native) and Lt. Silveras of the Brazilian Army, whom the team rescues from near death at the hands of Chan Sanns mercs as well as being at the mercy of all kinds of jungle critters; including wasps the size of birds, alligators and pirahna. Able Teams job is to go in and gather information only. A soft probe. Yeah right ! Within 24 hours they begin assembling a pretty big army and have tons of weapons, munitions and supplies being flown in from the states. Although an ally, all of this leads Lt. Silveras to think the team is really CIA planning to invade Brazil. Naturally the CIA is a joke compared to Stony Man. Of course Silveras can't seem to get it through his thick skull that Able Team are the good guys and he once again turns the gun on them. Finally Lyons lays it onto him hard on page 125. This part of the book had me howling aloud, yeah man!! "This punk's a dunce. He does not understand the real world of Mack Bolan. But let me keep it simple. Step out of line again-you die. No talk. No Philosophy. A bullet ! Man, that says it all. Classic. this book also had excellent dialog, good weapon descipt's and a cool cameo from the Executioner. The final scene in the book however let me down. It was kind of a weak finale. Too bad the author only wrote this one book. I liked his style and the book provided many funny moments. 76 points from me out of 100.

Rocking and rolling in the jungle yep this one kicked for me. Lyons is the character of choice in this title and from his painting himself with a jungle plant to repel the flies/mosquitos/wasps, going native in a loincloth (I too wish sometimes these books were illustrated ;-) ) to the aligator scene to the absolute classic scene when he gets stoned on "snuff" as is wasted until the next day. The many many scenes featuring Pol and Gadgets wondering what the hell is going on with the Ironman. The numerous quips between themselves on this. The interaction between the team and the native indians, the rescued/hostage/prisoner/ally Lieutenant Silveres who is written superbly. The slaughter of the native population with the Chlorine gas,the humanitarian aid for the natives, their delight and willingness to accompany Able Team to take down the one responsible for all of their troubles. I really got into the closeness of the Team to the native allies as they searched for the base/city of Wei Ho and attacked it. The assault on the base/city is excellent reading with the whole team contributing as well as the indian recruits and even Lieutenant Silveres who has been swayed from his high ideals after witnessing something (read it). etc. etc. many many things not mentioned this is great. Excellent read which keeps you interested and turning the pages recommended.

I liked this book for its pure orrigonality. Able Team teams up with some locan indigenous people (indians) and is led by their local guides to the neuclear plant. Along the way Lyons takes some mind altering halucinagens and is basically adopted as one of the tribesmen. Very cool. Along with the appearance of the Atchisson this book is pure action from start to almost end. I didnt like teh fact that the book slowed so much near the climax to tell you all about WeHo and his rise etc... if it wasnt covered in the begining of the book it probably didnt need to be in the end. and entire 6 or so paged chapter that half way through the droning i skipped due to a total lack of intrest. Highly recomended!

A good read, the action was well spaced evenly throughout the book. The basic story line was straightforward without being too simple. I really like how Lyons was given the chance to kick ass and shine in this one. Kinda weird, though. You'd think for a guy who is almost a bezerker, how'd he end up being the AT commander?

Able Team is in the Amazon jungle tackling an evil warlord's plans to create nuclear weapons. The team finds willing allies in the local indians. Another very satisfying Able Team adventure. The team is in action up to their eyeballs, lots of lead flying and plenty of stealthy infiltrations. Lyons goes native among their indian allies. The villains are incredibly evil in this book. And there are enough good characters, both good and bad, along the way to add interest. The hardware this time around includes Beretta 93-R pistols for the team, an Atchison Assault 12 automatic shotgun for Lyons (modified by Konzaki) with some nifty armor piercing steel dart slugs, an M-203/M-16 for Pol and a CAR-15 for Gadgets. Lots of Remington pump shotguns and G-3 assault rifles add to the lethality. A lot of the action in this one takes place on or near the river and on boats and except for a bit of confusion in one scene where I couldn't keep straight where the hell Carl was going I really liked the action set in these areas. The last battle in the book is the assault on the warlord's compound and it really kicks the book up into high gear action. Great stuff there. The guys from Able Team racked up another solid adventure here with 8 stars from me.

Average, but I enjoyed it mainly for one image. Ironman accidentally getting stoned with the natives and going native himself. The image of him in paint and loincloth with his hair in a bowl-cut was worth the price of admission ;)

Just an average book. Notable for the first appearance of Lyons' Atchisson.
