SuperPhoenix Force #2: Search and Destroy

What an OUTSTANDING BOOK! This book is equal to Super Phoenix #1. This Author really knows how to fabricate a excellent story. I really live this book. Linaker really captures the spirit of the fighting man. I absolutely love the scene with Manning and Enzio pinned down by the secret police. And then Rafael getting on the phone to call in Jack and the Dragon Slayer. It just doesnt get any better than that. And Katz getting captured was well written. I did have a small problem with Katz captor's letting him keep his prosthesis. Other than small minor detail. The rest of this story kicks major ass. Great supporting characters to like Jack milligan and Malmud. And I really liked the KGB agent Testorov. Just a great novel all around. 10 freaking stars!!

Every once in a while there comes a book in the Bolanverse that stands head and shoulders above the rest and sets the bar higher for following titles to measure up. A book flawlessly structured, plotted and executed. A book with spot on characters and in depth personalities. A book that truly excites and engages. Search and Destroy is just such a book. Mike Linaker delivers, as he always does, but goes above and beyond even for him. He has proven in other titles that he is one of the best authors contributing to this series and this book, his second, shows that even from the beginning he knew how to turn out outstanding material. The plot and story is well structured and flows smoothly. The action is crisp and exciting and never too much or forced. Linaker has a great prose, especially for action, and he proves it here. The characters are superb and spot on. With a five man team sometimes one or more members of the team will seem flat or uninspired but Linaker manages to give each depth and a unique voice without resorting to stereotypes. This book has no detractors and is simply an excellent bit of literature. It stands up superbly against any book inside or out of the Bolanverse.

Having lived in the Philippines for two years whilst in a business there a lot of the locations mentioned brought memories flooding back and the location descriptions during the title are pretty much spot on. Very good read this one whilst not featuring anything new the title is a solid read with good action scenes and character descriptions interwound with a fair plot. Certainly not the worst you could read in this series.

Fast paced action sequences through and through. Pheonix Force minus Katz for almost the entire novel had to realy pull together to thwart the KGB and assasins plans. I almost couldnt bear the thoughts of what was going to happen to Katz throughout the book, and Macarter taking over Pheonix force to save not only the Phillipene President but Katz was awesome. I loved the dragon slayer helicopter scene on the water... Pheonix Force surronded and out gunned had to call in Grimaldi for some airborne supremecy!

The Force does some searchin, and a lotta destroyin in this novel. Katz is left out of most of this book, the other four members do a lot of base wrecking and bad guy blasting in a fast paced actionfest. This one is an extended version of a regular book, with some extra firefights added. Not up to the level of quality that Firestorm was, but a pretty good book overall.

A great read. Loved having Grimaldi and Dragon Slayer in this. Very action oriented.

Good read. I lived in the Philippines for a while so I enjoyed this one and "Sea of Savages" for that fact alone. However, I think "Sea of Savages" did a better job of addressing the plot and balancing the action with characterization and dialogue.

I must confess, while I spent some time searching for it, this book sat forever on my bookshelf waiting to be read. I guess I wasn't too interested in the affairs of the Philipines as opposed to the other locales that Phoenix had been to. (That's why I also liked Able going international too. This way, we'd see Sri Lanka and the Carribean at the same time on bookshelves.)However, finally getting to it, it was great.There were hints about McCarter's taking command of Phoenix in this one, even if it was out of continuity. I'd guess that both Missile Menace and Search and Destroy had been penned just before Fieldhouse did Firestorm, thus making Linnaker seem a little behind.I loved seeing a book that actually delved deep into KGB history, complete with Mahmud, references to previous books and especially one of my favorite Phoenix books Tooth and Claw, where the KGB discovered who Gary Manning and Yakov Katzenelenbogen were. Sadly, we never got to see a return engagement with the main KGB villain, which is too bad. I'd love to maybe see a rematch someday. (And yes, this means another Stony Man where they take on ex-KGB Russian Mafiya members. Screw repetition! I wanna see Phoenix take down one or two last old enemies once and for all!)Awesome setpiece action sequences, even with DragonSlayer (God I miss that old bird now). The end sequence, with a half-strength Force hunting through an abandonned building to stop Remsberg's Raiders was worth the price of admission alone.
