One of Mike Linaker's earlier novels and it was better than the previous one of his that I read. To start with, I got throu this in a couple of days, although there was needless exposition that I skipped, like how the guys all carry different weapons and calibres in to battle, because they never need to share bullets. but hey, ho!
The story wasn't much, there are some bad guys in the Amazon who are Nazi's, supplying drugs and creating a super virus. Go in and destroy. Three of our guys are captured, one escapes. Meanwhile the other two team mates team up with Jack and his new Dragon Slayer helicopter which I take is a Blackhawk. Then everything blows up and gets destroyed and the good guys get to go home. So better story than the later novel.
Wow! what a great book. This Author Rocks. The Introduction of Dragon Slayer is Awesome. I think that this was the first Phoenix adventure that Jack Grimaldi has made an appearance. I could be wrong though, And I really liked James escape from the compound. I felt bad for Louis Farrango and it was satisfying when David and Rafael dispatched those bastards who tortured him to hell. this is one of the better books in the series and I give it a 10 star rating.
I have read all the normal Phoenix Force books, and I have to say, this is probably the best one ever. It featured a lot of action, leaving near nothing to be desired. The Dragon Slayer is epic compared to books featuring aero-craft induction, like the Wingman series.
I highly recommend this to anyone looking to read and picture something featuring neo-Nazis and unconventional jungle warfare.

Another brilliant title from Mike Linaker from his earlier works.
I loved the way this title started with the Team being pursued by Nazi fanatics through the Amazon jungle lots of good action until three of the Team are captured. I must say that Nazi's are right up there with bikers and Mafia goons as my favourite enemies.
And then we break to the briefing by Hal in the past tense on why the Team is here and what they hope to achieve and the introductions of the Team. Different and refreshing.
Kurt Mohn the insane leader of the Nazi New Order is so well written you just love to hate the guy and he is an evil prick let me tell you. The scene where the biological agent is tested on an undercover police officer and is described in gruesome detail is some chilling stuff.
The introduction of Dragon Slayer is terrific in more than one way as it allows the inserting of Jack Grimaldi to fly it and whilst he wasn't on the ground with the Team as he has been many times in other of the combined series titles it adds to the story.
The Team is split into three allowing three different storylines to run concurrently similar to the authors previous title and once again he manages to not only keep all three exciting reading but all three again feed back into the main plot seamlessly for the climax of the title.
The way the Team are reunited with Calvin is very believable considering the vastness of the Amazon Jungle and on to the main base of the Nazi's to reunite with Katz and Gary with a guide to direct them.
The action scenes inside the base are excellent reading especially the scenes on the steel fire escape and the sandbag bunker. Unfortunately one of the Team is seriously wounded here I'll leave it to you to read this title to find out who.
Excellent title which is alas one of the all too infrequent which keep you flicking to the next page to see what is going to happen and you really have to struggle to put it down.
I loved it, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED reading.
I want to flat out state that I did not like “Amazon Strike.” Nazis in South America, working up profits with drugs, and the introduction of Airwolf, oops, I meant Dragon Slayer. They are not necessarily fatal flaws. However, the adventure was linear. Phoenix Force’s search and destroy mission had very little in terms of anything interesting. A lot of the uniqueness is placed firmly on the shoulders of the Dragon Slayer which is an Airwolf clone. The helicopter is so ridiciously overpowered that Grimaldi could have been the basis of a third action team series. Especially when Phoenix Force getting chopped up a bit and Dragon Slayer emerges more or less unscathed. What is one to think? I can describe in detail the ways that this novel is a dud, but I don’t want to pile on. But it also does not help that I’m not a fan of Dragon Slayer. I should have also mentioned that up front.
This is a good one. Very well written, lots of action, and Grimaldi gets his new toy, Dragon Slayer, a high tech helecopter, is introduced in here.
The story is pretty simple overall, goto the jungle find the base and destroy it, but the writing was well done, and the Force kicks the snot out of the worst scum on the planet, Nazis. The book gets an extra star for that, I'm giving Amazon Strike 9 stars.
Put this one on your must read list.
I thought this was one of the best of the later Phoenix Forces. And finally we have Jack Grimaldi flying a violent work of art. The action sequences are breathtaking. Go Dragon Slayer!
