Ultimate Terror

I absolutly love this book. I've read this book multiple times. To start with Manning at the beginning of the book struggling to come to terms with the death of nemtala was touching. I liked the John Phoenix cameo. I liked when katz and Keio went to vienna and Katz attitude toward the enthusiasm of Keio as he was taking pictures. I liked the nazi hunter Solomon. I liked the bad guys in this book. ODESSA Nazi's teaming up with former members of the Baader-Meinhof was good reading. Lots of great shootouts and action. Thought the end was great with the East German agent killing himself because he couldnt reprogram the missles from targets in East Germany to West Germany. This book gets 9 stars.

Started off with a nice strong mysterious opening. A lot of great actions scenes, like the German locations. Even though the new Nazi coming thing is seen pretty often in the Bolanverse, it is handled pretty effectively here. The ending was a bit odd and rushed in my opinion. They have the chance to launch the missles before PF can get to them, but just kill themselves before they do it. Seems a bit odd. I wonder if a lot of the ending was edited down and cut out some important bits/scenes such as PF closing in and the villains realizing they wouldn't have time to succeed.

Another title by this author more like Dragon's Kill than Tiger's Justice. The enemy this time is the dregs of the Baader-Meinhof gang who nicked off rather than facing their calling and a branch of ODESSA Nazis who are collaborating to take over a NATO missile site then re- aim the missiles at selected targets whereupon they will demand the removal of all foreign presence in a unified Germany under their newly formed Government. The enemy troops are wasted like a red hot knife goes through butter possibly part caused by their insistence to use weapons dating back to the second world war. The action scenes are good and exciting but I struggled through this one where I thought the plot was a bit farfetched anyway and having this confirmed at the end where what they were actually trying to do at this missile site couldn't have been done anyway. Unless you need to read it I would say give it a miss.

This was my first Phoenix Force novel and I thought that it was very well done. ANytime you see Nazi get killed is always a plus. The characters were shown all to their fullest potential. While McCarter, Manning and Encizo were good as always, my two favorite characters in this book, hands down, are Keio and Katz. These two are incredible. It just sucks that they were killed off in other stories, because they were definetly the most interesting. When I think of Keio I think of a six foot tall Bruce Lee and the fact Katz has a pistole in his fake hand just about makes him the coolest character of all time. Great Read!

Phoenix Force is out to stop the plans of an alliance of leftist terrorists and nazis aimed at U.S. forces in Germany. These terrorist scum have been murdering U.S. soldiers and Phoenix has been called in to stop the insanity. The characters of Phoenix are pretty well written here, with Manning still thinking about the death of a lover in the previous book although the book is not drenched in pathos thankfully. The bad guys are evil, some are maniacal, most are pathetic cowards, i.e. terrorists. The plot is enough to get Phoenix into several blazing firefights without seeming too contrived. No big surprises though there is the subplot of an east german agent opposing the terrorists from within unknown to Phoenix Force. One thing that puzzled me though was why the West German anti-terrorist experts, GSG 9, seemed content to stand by and provide perimiter security while 5 foreigners did all the assaults on terrorist haunts. I really thought GSG 9 should have had something to do with all the action on West German soil. The action is uniformly good. Lots of various types of lethal weaponry spray lead and go boom. And there was much rejoicing. From not quite halfway through the book until the end Phoenix is involved in one contact after another and they all contain enough excitement to put this one in the upper tier of action books. My only criticism of the action scenes is that in the last assault by Phoenix they go in with great firepower but 4 of them end up in hand-to-hand combat with terrorists. Pretty sloppy tactics. Action scenes get this one a 7 star rating.

A good one with a lot of memorable shoot-outs.
