Yep just to add my lot to the previous reviews this is an excellent finish to the Fall of the West duology.
Lots and lots of good action scenes to read here folks and you will be happy to read all of the characters as they are supposed to be as the author has them down pat.
All of the sub plots introduced in the first title and earlier in this title come together nicely and merge into the finale which is excellent reading.
Again highly recommended reading both of these titles in this series.
The grand finalle to the two part fall of the west book kicked some major butt. I was glad to see that Barb recovered. I was also glad to see that JR Rust wasnt killed off as are many of the opperatives that work with the stont man team.
Part II of 'The Fall of the West' duet brought all the pieces together for an excellent conclusion.
Kasner truly shines in this book as one of the top Bolan writers.
This book gave the entire Stony Man Farm personnel a chance to show their talents. Kasner managed to get everyone down pat in this one.
I hope to see J.R. Rust again one day in a Stony Man book(hint, hint).
My only beef with this book was that Bolan didn't seem to remember his encounter with the Brotherhood of Assassins from years earlier. So much for that continuity thing.
Excellent entry from Kasner. I liked how Able Team had a separate mission
in this story, and Kasner gave space to develop it. If you like Blancanales
then this book is for you, a lot of Able Team's story revolves around
him.
I also liked the character of J.R. Rust and hope we get to see him again.
I think that #42 and #43, Fall of the West, is Kasner's best work yet.
A very satisfying conclusion. :-)
I agree. This one was a very satisfying conclusion. When reading Kasner books, the reader tends to just learn a lot of little tidbits about EVERYTHING that really make it intriguing as well as very exciting reading. In addition to Kasner's top-marks action scenes (even an awesome dogfight!), I found the Grimaldi/CAG chewout scene to be the funniest Stony Man scene I ever read. :)
I thought this turned out to be a pretty good sequel to Edge of Night.
It was good to see Pol get some playing time. I liked the part when the Digger nearly ran Blancanales over.
The Phoenix Force part was weak in the beginning. It wasn't getting anywhere until Manning said 'nuclear bomb'.
I like where Katz, Encizo, and Grimaldi were holding up their base taking out assassins. That was the best part of the book.
PLUS the cure for the antrax desease was weak. Just a regular shot from other needles definetly wasn't a fascinating cure. If I knew Kasner was going to right it like that, I could have guessed that!
Overall, average
This one took a long time to read, and after the wait for it after Edge of Night, I think the break between the two left me unmotivated to read it quickly. (Never mind the lots of books I kept picking up in the meantime.)
I'll be glad when Able's given it's head in Central America by Kasner, as dealing with some of these American cult masterminds struck me as a harder road to hoe trying to wrap them up legally.
I know it's hard for a group like Able to operate as "cowboy" as they did way back when (and ironically, Phoenix usually played nice-nice with local law enforcement), at least the team got plenty of good characterization. Every member of Able got good scenes, especially Gadgets and the Virgin Mary.
Good book overall.
This book was very good. I was reading this book during a youth retreat. It was hard to put down. Lots of action.
Not quite as good as the first story in the duology. Phoenix learnt the name of the villian far to easily and them being under seige didn't hold my attention in the same way as part one. Able's mission was completely unrelated, and once again I felt that they should have been out in Beirut with Phoenix. It would not have been their first time in the Middle East. Also the use of the Assassins has been done before in Bolan 114:Cold Judgement, and yet Bolan had no recollection of this. No points for Mr Kasner on continuity. I would have liked to have known what happened to Rust by the end of the book. He just was never mentioned again.
Despite a rather negative view of this one, it is still leaps and bounds ahead of many other Bolan novels and is still not to be missed.
