This is a review for the Vietnam Ground Zero Story ZEBRA CUBE.
I didnt like this book much. I found it confusing and hard to follow. To much back and forth from the states to Vietnam. To much going on here to keep track on. I tried to have a open
mind but it just didn't work for me. 6 stars
This is a review for the Phoenix Force Story "Survival Run"
This is a really good story. Fast paced and alot of Action. Good Supporting characters like Ben Sharon. This story reminded me of Firestorm. Good to see Jack And Dragon Slayer too. Great stuff. 9 Stars.
This review is for the Able Team Book Razorback. I give this book 7 stars. I thought the story was pretty good. I bad guys were bad. If Able Team just waited the bad guys would have killed each other. I thought the sheriff was scum, and I wish he would have died a slow agonizing death. I thought Gadgets meeting Up with his Vietnam war buddy was a little far fetched. I think that part of the story should have been written differently. All in all pretty standard stuff.
This is a review on book three of Heroes volume one the title Zebra Cube.
Firstly this is not the sort of title I would purchase off the shelf and quite frankly the only reason I read it was because it was included at the end of the Heroes book one series.
So what can I say about it?
The writing style I found confusing with the constant changes in location from where the action is to the States until (I'm guessing here) maybe the guy in the States who is on emergency leave to bury his parents who have been killed in a car accident is going back to rejoin his team ?
(how's that just finished it and guess what happens)?
BUT this title is one where you REALLY should already know the backgrounds of the major characters.
I struggled as I think any first time reader of this series would if you started with this title and unless you were really into this type of book would find it ordinary.
Maybe this series was written with a specific range of readers in mind (likely) I hope they enjoyed it but it did very little for me I am afraid.
UNTIL I GOT TO THE END !
Excellent a FEW surprises here.
The author has been wanking on for the last how many pages and it finally all falls into place what he has sown.
Yep I didn't see it coming at all well done.
Was going to say here that I may try another of this series until I checked the lack of reviews on the series.
But who knows maybe one day.
This is a review on book two of Heroes volume one the title Survival Run.
The US Secretary of State has been kidnapped and expectations of a ransom demand for his release are dashed as the kidnappers have no intention of releasing him as after a "trial" he will be executed and the images are to be delivered to the world.
The Force is sent on a rescue mission to try to locate the Secretary and attempt a rescue with a very constrained timeline.
Jack and Dragon Slayer are along for the ride and some excellent action scenes ensue as the Force come closer and closer to the location they are looking for.
Once again an excellent finish resulting in Jack being injured after being shot but I too was slightly disappointed the author didn't let us know at the end of the title the results.
Good read recommended reading.
This is a review on book one of Heroes volume one the title Razorback.
Terrific read featuring a good plot and some excellent characters introduced.
How some of them are written into the story especially Lyons date is well done.
No honour among thieves here with the bad guys constantly on alert for being double crossed by their allies whilst actively doing the same themselves.
A good body count results from good action scenes and the finish is excellent.
Recommended reading.
This is a review for RAZORBACK, an Able Team novel by David North.
I give it an 8 rating.
I was surprised by this story, I wasn't expecting much, but it turned out to be one of the better AT novels in the last books of the series. The style reminded me of the better Ron Renauld books. A lot of the focus was on the bad guys and their scemes. A lot of different things were going on, but the author managed to keep everything tied together pretty well.
One of the things that is a plus for this novel is the accuracy of the backgrounds of the characters and the events taken place throughout the series.
Cowboy joins Lyons and Pol for much of the mission while Gadjets is on his own. I liked the various perspectives from so many different characters, it made the story more interesting and entertaining.
The plot was pretty good, the corrupt sheriff was an unusual villain, I thought his role was written well. The leader of the biker gang was another good villain. Also I liked the character of Susan Phelen. She was so much more than just a love interest for Lyons. Her part in the book was excellent. And Sandy Meissner, whom Gadjets met in Strike Force, had an appearance as well.
This is a review for SURVIVAL RUN, a phoenix force story by Mike Linaker. Rating - 7 stars.Another action packed fast paced PF book with some good firefights and the return of Dragonslayer. The Force needs to rescue the secretary of state from his kidnappers, who are jihad crazy fanatics who want to kill the secretary on tv to start off their war on the USA. Action starts in Saudi Arabia, on to Isreal, Lebanon, and ending up in Libya. McCarter has some funny banter with his teammates, and Grimaldi joins them for the final assault on the Lybian base, an awesome battle helped out by a new improved version of Dragonslayer. Grimaldi gets hurt, but his fate is sort of a mystery as the book ends. The scene in Isreal was nice, when Katz felt like home, and his thoughts about retiring there someday.
I really liked the Able Team novel in this one, primarily because of the multi-layered approach David North uses in this one. I also liked it because Cowboy and Sandy Meisner appeared in this one.
The Able Team novel was pretty good, but not as well done as Heroes II. The Phoenix novel was very action packed with that great humorous banter between McCarter and the other members of the Force. I thought they could have utilized DragonSlayer more, but the carnage it wreaked was cool anyway. The Vietnam: Ground Zero novel was about on par compared to the other ones I've read. Not great, but passable.
