Wednesdays Wrath

Wow!! I thought this was a great book. Solid action. Glad to see Captain Harrleson back. Glad Mack got to take care of some unfinished business from Colorado. Liked the use of the Col Phoenix Moniker. I'm a big fan of the terrorist wars, and I'm glad this part of Mack's journey is coming to a end. It was good to see Jack in this book and his handling of the Cobra gunship was great. All in all another 8 star book.

Another top-rate action adventure book in the series! Pendleton kept the creatiivity and excitiment going with Wednesday's effort. With the introduction of "Col John Phoenix", this book indeed greatly foreshadowned the Stony Man books we've grown to appreciated. In Wednesday's Wrath, we see Hal and Co. take on a greater role, we have familiar adversaries, and the character of Mack Bolan continues to be seen as he struggles with the idea of whether or not he's having an impact in taking down the mafia. The ongoing discussion between Mack and Hal regarding the Executioner's impact on the mafia is tremendous. I've really enjoyed how Mack has thought threw his efforts and the subsequent future of what's he's planning to do. Add in the wonderful storyline of military invovlements, chemical biological weapons, potential world-wide impact, and you have everything needed for a first-rate action book.

Nerve gas drifting across New Mexico towards Tucumcari and maybe getting there via an Indian reservation a final word to the Apaches, eh? Then panic throughout the southwest : communications piracy briefly splitting the country apart; manipulation of emergency communications networks; an anxious NATO alliance wondering where all the generals had gone; perhaps even a brief national emergency in the confusion of the moment, with strategic missiles and nuclear bombers and subs poising for a response to something dreaded but not really happening. For the final stroke, no one anywhere actually aware of the real peril for perhaps days, or until those forbidden weapons created a bona fide emergency for another nation or two then, maybe, for the whole trembling world. This was the scenario stopped by the Big Guy in this title where Frank Harrelson who we thought was out of it after Monday seems that that was just an entree. The whole scenario was huge and required massive amounts of assistance for the Big Guy to stop which is one of the reasons maybe I found this title a little lacking as I prefer when he acts alone. None the less quite a readable title and on to Thursday here we come.

One of the best books of the original series in my opinion! I really enjoyed this one, especially tying this story to one of my other favorites, Colorado Kill-Zone and getting the final showdown with Harrelson. Unfortunately, yet again, the two adversaries fail to meet face to face. This was not a mob story at all, this was a precursor to the Bolan/Phoenix stories and was very nicely done. Action packed and lots of supporting cast. Plus it's always nice having Grimaldi as a major player in a story as well. My favorite of the "Second Mile" books so far with just two days remaining.

Bolan's "handling" of a vicious torturer kick off this adventure with satisfying fury. Also connecting Mafia actions with a military base and "big scheme" plot kind of lay down a blueprint for the non-Pendleton Bolans that come in the wake of the wrap up week. Also the books tend to cut away from Mack more often now as the people he is going to working with/for after Pendleton passes the torch are given a chance to live and breath on the page. Although, as a whole, this one is not a great entry, it is a very good one. And it's clear now that the books have a definite direction. As I have read only 1 non-Pendleton, but have a stack of them I'm eager to dive into on my reading shelf, this bodes well.

The week started out great , Monday was very impressive, Tuesday, not too bad, Wednesday ... a little confusing. I liked the opening scene, kinda ties up the end of Tuesday and leads into Wednesday. Again I have a problem with Bolan dressing up as the Turkey doctor ( putting on the guys clothes and graying his hair a bit ) and then going off to meet up with his Mob contacts - he already suspects a CIA connection - that's not the bad part, the bad part is, after a meeting with some errand boys, he decides to waltz right into a fortified Mob/Milita base posing as this doctor - that he knew for 5 seconds before blowing the guys head off . He has NO IDEA at this time if anyone knows who the guy is , why walk into their base ? For such a "Military Genius and Super Elite Tactician whos survived 30 plus campaigns by being fully prepared for every situation" ... this is the Stupidest move in history ... but there were some good parts to this one, and some good scenes. I was torn on what to give this one, but for the bone headed role camo , i give it a four ...

This book really sucked from start to finish and with the connection of the plot to Colorado Crisis which was a very good book, this is just a pale shadow of that one. Why, do you ask? Well, too much effort in explaining the general landscape in the book, no character building, confusing story line and unclear plot. It was great to have Bolan´s old "friend" and nemesis back in action as they were bound to clash again after Colorado Crisis but I would have preferred to have more one on one between them and more presence of Harrelson there and perhaps get some inside in his thoughts about having Bolan on his trail again The plot and how it was conceived and executed was very unclear and how it was tied up in the end was done in a simple way without giving any further information as to what was really supposed to happen to the goods after they were successfully taken away. The book has already passed my mind and didn´t leave anything there for the future.............and I just finished it a few minutes ago!!!! (Iceland - 2005)

This one isn't as good as the first 2 of the final week, but it is satisfiying enough.

The Executioner is back in top form in this thriller that's packed with lots of story and enough action to keep it all humming. The plot unfolds as Bolan takes a sidetrip to New Mexico to follow up some leads related to his last blitz across southern California. This mission turns out to be a monster. Bolan opens with a raid on a little mafia turkey factory and his follow-up takes him into several confrontations with the mob and their allies as he unravels their plan. He hits them hard at their HQ but largely takes them apart with more finesse than firepower. An old nemesis is on hand. But so is Grimaldi and of course Hal and April are involved, though April is not in the thick of the action this time. The War Wagon makes only a non-fighting appearance and Bolan and Grimaldi take on the enemies without the RV. This story isn't packed full of firefights but the plot was so good I didn't miss it. Bolan did some good thinking and musing here also and that always ups the scale at least a point for me. I can't find anything to criticize in this book and I really liked it so I'm giving it the full 10 stars.

A good book. One of the better ones in his final six days.
