Indian and Pakistani airliners are shot down by U.S.-made Stinger missiles with massive loss of life. Although fanatic religious groups claim responsibility for the acts of terrorism, the groundswell of anger is directed at America. The President orders Stony Man into the Stinger repo business before an ancient holy war escalates to global destruction.

This one started out on a fast-paced note. Able Team hunting for terrorists in California. Pretty good action, and I had high hopes for the rest of the book. Well, then it settled into the usual experience I've had with this author. It was a well-written story, and I did enjoy the McCarter/Grimaldi capture episode. But, it seemed like it was just a technothriller that could have had any other characters involved. Able then disappears until a small part at the end. Even when the Stony Men closed in on the terror mastermind, it wasn't much of a finale.

Yep really enjoyed this one a lot. Good original plot timelined after the retreat of Russian forces in Afghanistan where hundreds of Stinger missiles which were freely supplied by the CIA to the rebels to assist them are now being bought up by various terrorist groups and used for furthering their cause. Apparently the Stingers require a specially built battery for their operation (have no idea if this is true but it read well) and the only place in the US which makes them features in the title because some of the Stingers have flat batteries and won't work. Well Iranians are the bad guys here with their crazy Ayatollah's plot to cause a nuclear war between Pakistan and India triggered by Stinger's being used to bring down commercial aircraft in both countries playing on the hatred of each other and of course the US (they made them for goodness sake) and then they will waltz into the countries and take them over as Muslim states. Really couldn't figure out how they would walk into a radioactive wasteland and take over? (take over what?) but was further confused by the author's seeming acceptance of how this could actually come about and I thought he just waffled on a bit in this section and should have been edited out. The ending is quite good reading even though I thought it was a bit far fetched and well off to the next title. Solid read well worth your time.

I thought this book was very good and an enjoyable read. Able team did not have as much to do in this one though. The setting in the Kashmir and afgahn area were good choices and the action and plot flowed nicely. I wonder if our sat intel could really be rigged to see a man like it did in the end. 8 stars.

By my count this was Kasner's third attempt at a STONY MAN and he hit his stride big-time here. The cover alone was enough to give me goose-bumps. Terrorists bringing down a jetliner with a shoulder-mount rocket launcher? Straight out of last month's headlines, right? Wrong! 'Stinger' came out in 1995, which means Kasner probably wrote it a couple years before that. Amazing! And it's not just the plot that grabs you in this one. Kasner's on top of his game in terms of background, action, dialogue and characterization. A great, great entry, on par with a recent SUPERBOLAN set against the same India/Pakistani turf war (sorry, title escapes me). A tenner all the way here!

This book has hard core action and intelligence on terroists and the Stinger Missile.
