I finally was able to snag this one through Amazon. After a good start with Pol and a girlfriend (who knows way too much about Stony Man) getting ambushed by the Russians, the rest of Able jumps into the fray. The cat and mouse with Pol and the gunners was tense, quickly leading to Ironman's entry into the famed triathalon. The fuzzy part was the Russian plot. After some mystical mumbo-jumbo involving gods and such, Able finds out the target is a CIA agent participating in the event. He was quite a whiny character and the usual good action from Arnett was not always there and sloppy. A decent final battle with the Russians, but this one fizzled out.

If by some chance you are into Triathlon events as a competitor or spectator you may/possibly get into this title but the rest of us are left wondering. This title relates to the proposed kidnapping of a high ranking CIA director who is in training and is going to compete in the triathlon. Forget the trimmings this is basically a title about Lyons competing in the famous Hawaiin Ironman triathlon event. Toss in some bumbling fool Spetsnaz soldiers and mix it in with totally incompetent CIA agents add in a couple of local tourist guides who immediately become part of the team go further and add a princess and then to top it off why don't we make Lyons a god. At one stage during the race when the CIA director has been kidnapped by the Russians and is being held on a truck he is freed due to certain events. So what would he do? Go racing back to the US quick as? Certainly get back to his bodyguards for protection? No he hops on his bicycle and continues in the race and this is supposedly one of the top guys in the CIA who could be pumped for information which could severely damage the US. I struggled through this one.

I went into this book not realising it was a Bolan spinoff. I enjoyed it but I felt it fell a little flat. The action was well written and the characters were interesting but the plot was simplistic. The book warrants a 6 rating because it was a fun read and an interesting way to kill a few hours but it left no real lasting impression and was ultimately a disposable book. I gave it to a friend who also enjoys pulp action novels knowing that I would never want to read it again.

Holy action Batman, check out this one! This book packs a lot of stuff in a 220 page book, if your looking for a good able team, this is one of them.I really liked how AT tweaked the CIA's nose in this story, and the bike race was an interesting scene. Good stuff.
