Cloud of Death

The middle book of the four horseman trilogy begins where Initiation left off, with Bolan already having embedded himself well into the cult by this time. The focus now shifts more toward action, and the further down the rabbit hole that Bolan goes. This is an outstanding piece of work from Newton, and his best work in my opinion since #142 Fatal Error. The aftermath of the conclusion from the last book sets the stage, and Cloud Of Death brings the story to a new level, this time with a ramped-up threat in the form of a Oklahoma City bombing inspired plot with additional villains outside the cult adding to the mix. Bolan's mission must enfold all the while remaining undercover and this is one of my favorite parts of the story, Newton handled it very well and I didn't want to put the book down. Loved the way Bolan actually worked his way higher in the cult just when you thought his cover would be blown. The action scenes were terrific, the way Mack used the biker gang to his advantage was pure genius, and a whole new threat gets introduced to add even more meat to the adventure. The final action in Los Angeles was terrific, yet another group, this time Arab terrorists collude with the cult, and their plot is the most threatening of all. With Bolan in the thick of things the whole way undercover, it was an excellent break from the standard perspective from most of the rest of the series. Really well done, I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book, and while by the end it seems like Bolan's cover is finally blown, I am hoping this good storytelling momentum will continue in Termination Point, the conclusion to the trilogy.

Well unfortunately the boring/ordinary continues with title two of the trilogy as well as there is basically not much worth reading. Two stars added as the final section involving the Arabs and the Sarin gas in the trains was excellent reading but come on what about the rest of the title? I can't recommend this title to you in these series.

A case of too much of a good thing here. Action galore and most of it well-written, but the storyline slogged in a lot of spots and you got the since things were being padded to make sure there'd be something left over to spill into another book. I agree with other reviewers that most of the trilogies in these series are disappointments, mostly because they'd be better in most respects trimmed down to a single book. Newton's a good writer and has done better work, but it's hard to fault him here as it's the format more than his writing that's to blame. Readers, you're better off tracking down one of Newton's single books.

Great second book in the trilogy. Mike Newton has definitely got the knack. I kept waiting for the action to bog down, but it never did. Bolan would do something and I'd think "Surely his cover will be blown now, and he's still got another book to get through. Oh no, bloodbath..." but it never happened. I, too, had hoped Ares would stick around till the third book, but the way he was downed was interesting. Might've been more fun if it had lasted a bit longer, a la "The Most Dangerous Game," but since that story's already been done, can't fault Newton for making it short but sweet. I'll admit to being a bit nervous abou thte third book. So far, trilogoeis haven't had a good track record for me. The Power Trilogy had a crappy finale, to me, and the Hydra trilogy was...well...just not good. I'm hoping this trilogy fairs better; so far, it's by far been the most interesting and entertaining of the trilogies I've read.

A very action-packed entry in a so-so trilogy entry. Definitely an action oriented book. The biker scene was excellent. Looking forward to how they bring this trilogy to a close.

WOW!!! THIS BOOK KICKED SOOOO MUCH BUTT, ITS NOT FUNNY! Just wanted to get that in.... A wonderful entry by Mike Newton. The action scenes in this one were the parts that stood out the most. The biker thing was just pure genius, not just the action itself, but the idea and the on-the-spot improvisation by Bolan. The subway scence was breathtaking-- I'll agree with that-- I did not want to put the book down until that was resolved. I have to grieve for Morell, he was really good. Great overall book. Can't wait for Termination Point. Score (1-10) - 9.99 (In my opinion, no book is ever truly perfect.)

IAM BREATHLESS!! WHAT AN OUTSTANDING BOOK!! BETTER THAT THE FIRST!! THIS BOOK WAS WELL WRITTEN, SUSPENSEFULL, AND HAD PLENTY OF KNOCK OUT ACTION SEQUENCES, I ECSPECIALLY LOVED THE PART WHEN BOLAN USED THE BIKER GANG TO STOP THE DELIVERY OF THE TRUCK BOMB, TALK ABOUT BRILLIANT!! MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT I THOUGH ARES WOULD HAVE BEEN A BIT MORE FORMIDABLE TO BOLAN THAN HE WAS AND HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN KEPT AROUND TO THE THIRD BOOK. OTHER THAN THAT CANT WAIT TILL TERMINATION POINT.

This one wasn't quite as intriguing as the first one, but its the middle book so I guess the story is continuing. There's a lot of sleuth work and expaining being done by Bolan in this one to prove that he's still in with the gang. I found the description of the cult and how they continue to convince themselves of their beliefs to be very interesting. But everyone should read this book for the last subway scene - UNBELIEVABLY COOL!! Talk about fast action. I don't want to say too much about it because it deserves to be read but it kept me breathless until the final pages. All I wanna add is: Morrell kicks major butt in this one. Enjoy.
