Initiation

The first volume in the Four Horseman superBolan trilogy, which at this point would be the largest Executioner story thus far. Here we have a decent start, where Bolan has infiltrated a doomsday cult, with the help of a former member. I liked the different direction this book takes, being more of an undercover operation rather than a Bolan blitz. Learning more as he goes, Bolan has to be on his toes at any moment, using his skills in role camouflage and somehow try and get word to Brognola without getting caught. Not a whole lot of action scenes due to the nature of the story, but this was not a problem for me as I enjoyed the infiltration, and the crazy idealism that the cult believed in was an interesting subject matter to explore as the villain's plot. A lot of characters are introduced, with one of them, Pluto, being one that has an agenda against Bolan. The Pluto character in this reminded me of a similar plot device used in the American trilogy, another infiltration story Newton had written, but overall the story was different enough that it didn't seem like a blatant copy. The female ally was captured eventually as predicted, but at least this was handled very differently from Bolan's perspective as thankfully no sniper scene followed by calls to return the woman thing goes on this time around. The ending sequence in the Mormon temple was odd but some tense moments there with the crap hitting the fan for the final action. A good enough start to the trilogy, we will see how the rest of the story arc develops in Cloud of Death.

Okay here we go the first title in the Four Horseman Trilogy. There is absolutely no doubt that this author is TOTALLY into women subjugation and capture and probably bondage as well. I can't believe that I am re-reading this crap yet again but a female ally of the Big Guy is captured and held hostage requiring the Big Fella to enable a rescue. Imagine that! Okay so normally when this happens it is a bummer as we only actually get to read a half a title when we remove the cut and paste. This time it actually doesn't matter as the rest of the title is crap as well. The cult group which he is up against is laughable as are their followers who are basically wooden ducks on a shooting range and summarily dispatched with disdain. So we always get good action scenes from this author? Not here folks this was a very ordinary title in the series and in now way recommended.

Probably the best in this trilogy now that I've completed them. This one had a smooth beginning and a thoroughly action-packed plot. The ending was left as a cliff-hanger insisting you continue without giving much choice. Very well done!

I thought that this was a pretty good entry it dealt with some of the crazieness in the good old USA at teh end of the Millenium.

The book kept me interested, but like a lot of the undercover plots, it can be short on action. I've enjoyed other undercover books better.

The #3 part epic to me seemed to have a tie in to the Heavens Gate cult . If you look at it . But it had the true sence of the word Classic Bolan's touch of death to it . I loved all three of them . the trillogy for this one made me go out and find books 2 and 3. We need to hear more about Macks buddy Jack . Get them its a dang good read.

Best SuperBolan I've read so far! First Mike Newton book I've read so far! Wow! A Bolan book that emphasizes the plot and intrigue above the action! Can't say enough praise for this one. I can definitely see how some feel the middle drags. Coompared to your average Bolan read, that's true. Having said that, I feel the characterization was necessary, because I really care what's going to happen to these characters in the next two books. Celeste Bouchet and Andy Morrell are interesting, Celeste in particular.

I normally don't buy the trilogies because either the story is too padded or there is no plot with Bolan (and gang) just running around shooting anything that moves. This one was different in the way that it did lay some interesting ground work, however I did find it all to similar to other stories in the past (as recently as Rebels and Hostiles)where Bolan infiltrates the group, gets a job as a trainer, has a field trip with the bad guys; Bolan foils the plot and is the only man left standing, and how the 'girlfriend'is captured and Bolan almost - or does - blow his cover to rescue her. I found this one to be a decent story but it was all to predictable.

Great Story!! Mike Newton definitely did some work in writing this one. A lot of time is spent giving background for the plot. Normally I tend to lean towards more action and less plot, but with Newton's descriptions of the cult's recruitment techniques, I was hooked. I really like the part where Bolan teaches unarmed combat to some of the cultists. I haven't read the other two books in the series, but the trilogy is definitely off to a grand start.

I'd have to agree with Terry here. This was a wonderful SuperBolan. It wasn't your average fast-action book, but what do you expect from the 1st book of a SB trilogy? What it did do was set the stage, and it did so in excellent fashion. On a scale of 1-10, rate it an 8.

i have never really been a Mike Newtom fan until i read this book. The first couple of pages drew me in and suddenly i was hooked. I personally like the plots where Bolan goes in undercover to gain more information or to destroy from inside out. The characters i thought were really well developed and the action was decent, especially the end. highly recommended!!

Excellent start to what appears to be a very promising trilogy. This book placed more emphasis on laying the groundwork for Bolan's infiltration of the cult, story foundation and character introduction. The action was minimal in part one, but that's o.k. this book was very well written. A three SuperBolan trilogy, it's about time a Bolan technothriller was published. I look forward to part two.

Just an OK book. The middle of the story really lagged. But the ending was spectacular, all of the plot was building up to the climax. Other than the end the book is nothing special. But i heard part 2 is going to be excellent. I've never been a big fan for triologies because reading 3 books to get one story is long.

Wow. This one puts the Super back into Super Bolan. I haven't read a SB book this good in a LONG time. Definitely pick this one up. Bolan has a great undercover role in this fast-paced adventure. I *can't wait* for the 2nd part to arrive in the mail. Excellent job, Mr. Newton. I hope the remainder of the trilogy carry on with this kind of intensity and interesting plotline.
