The Hostaged Island

WOW! this is really an explosive novel. Able Team really kicks ass in this book. I thought the bikers were real scum of the earth and I wanted to see them die slow. I really liked the small group of Citizens Like Glenn and his wife and the 2 cousins striking back and not going down like sheep. Really solid action though out. Highly recommended reading. I give this book 9 stars

June of 1982 was a great month for Able Team...two new, introductory novels and both of them terrific! Obviously, I did Lyons and company a diservice in the past. Phoenix Force is still my number one, but no longer will I ignore Able Team. Consider me a full convert! Not much to review that others haven't already said. Great enemy in the murderous, psychotic biker gang. Horse, Stonewall, Chief; each was equally vile and readers could truly rejoice when justice was served. In particular, the death of Stonewall was especially satisfying...which leads me to the supporting character of Glen. Anyone else want short stories of Glen the Restaurant Manager dispensing vigilante justice? Of course, he would have to be assisted by his pregnant wife on shotgun! Seriously, Glen, his wife, the two teenage cousins, Max; all believable characters. This seems to be a hallmark of Able Team books; great background people. The boys really gelled in this book. Loved the showboating warning Gadgets gives Lyons. The closing conversation with Hal and Bolan begins to bring the Farm to life. Hal's line that Stony Man is like a castle for Mack is perfect. One can visualize Bolan as King Arthur, Hal as Merlin, and Able Team as his loyal Knights of the Round Table. Another great entry in the Able Team series that makes for an explosive beginning. A must read.

I just started reading my Mack Bolan/Stony Man Collection after about a 20 year break (although I kept collecting) and this was one of the first books I started back with. I really do not understand how the book got so many good reviews...its just not that good compared to other Able Teams. This mission finds the boys sneaking and surfing out to Catalina Island to diffuse a, Psycho Bikers from Hell, hostage situation set up by a KGB mole who wants to go back to the USSR with a stolen US Nuclear Submarine. Not a bad idea for a story and the bad guys were really baaaaad!! I can see why the author probably got fired after only a couple of books. I think he was probably a sixth grader. Really. The writing is terrible. The scenes were so badly described that I was having real trouble getting through this one. Horrible grammar and silly sentences. however.. the scene at the Seaplane Terminal was awesome and that kept my interest til the end. It was classic pulp trash and a well written action scene. For that scene alone I gave the book 4 stars. I was disapointed at the last scene in the casino with the fire hose the was supposed to spray gasoline on the hostages. The whole scene was rather cartoonish and silly. I give the book one more star for weapons description. but... This book is so bad and trashy that it reads like a cool action B Movie.For Able Team Fans it is a must read. This book is "Cult"

Able Team goes to a island to take on 72 wild bikers. Carl gets shot but keeps going taking each biker down one by one. With the help of two teenagers and a ex army man hiding from the goons they save all the towns people before they are made into a bomb at the casino. Great read with action from start to finish. I think this is my new favorite.

Whoohee how good is this. Bikers have taken control of Catalina Island and the residents are being held as hostages waiting for the ransom demand to be delivered. The bikers are basically going berserk slaughtering the residents,raping the young women,looting, committing arson,shooting up on heroin,getting drunk which is pretty much par for the course for this scum. Able Team are inserted via Kayak and the fun starts. The guys start to systematically remove the scum but they take their lumps as well especially Ironman. Coupled with a few residents who have managed to evade the marauding bikers. Many many things to like about this title and it rolls along at a frantic pace. Again many sub plots are woven into the title and if you read this you will very much enjoy the final section where one of the bikers who has slaughtered an elderly couple witnessed by one of the residents and gets paid back in spades (tripled). This is only the second title I have read in this series but if this one is indicative of what is to come bring it on. Highly recommended reading.

Another great read!! The bikers were true scumbags and made great villains. I thought that Able Team was really at its finest. I especially loved the fact that the residents of the island were real heroes in such a wild situation. Thanks a lot.

Incredible book. I enjoyed reading it from start to end. The way that the townspeople are written kept the book flowing. I loved the fact that some of them had the courage to stand and fight, and they did it in a way that didnt compromise them too much. Hiding in an attic to avoid unnecescary confrontations etc... I also loved the way that Able team came together and fought through the whole book. I was really worried about Carl after he took some serious hits.

very wel ldone..i picked this one up at a goodwill store for 50 cents.. i like the fact that some of the towns people did their part and tried to fight back..was a great book and those bikers were real scum bags for blowing away the old couple

This was one of the best nonExecutioner GE novels I have read. 1) The novel started out with the gas peddle down and never let up. Each scene had lots of action. In some ways it was rather reminiscent of how George Romero would have done an Able Team. Of course substitute living dead for druggie bikers. 2) I liked the fact that these were not soldiers/mobsters in biker clothes but bikers that acted like bikers - beer drinking, drug taking, not too bright bikers. 3) The citizens of Catalina acted realisticly. Sure many were sheep that did what they were told. But others acted like leaders especially Max. Max was a Hitchcock hero an ordinary man when pushed in an extreordinary situation becomes extraordinary. Also Glen how he took care of his wife and the two teenagers. Of course the teen Jack who was a coward but also fascinated by the bikers. 4) The action scenes were very good with Able Team and how they started off at one end of the island and slowly methodically moved in too take it. There alliance with Glen was also good to read. A bit similar to the first novel but this novel is far better. Its like the first novel was a rough draft and this was the final result. The first novel was still very good though.

I read Hostaged Island years ago, but I still remember how much I enjoyed it. It causes one to wonder if such a plot could really happen. I bought it in a used bookstore after already having read the plot summary somewhere else. Great book

This one was just as good as the first!The dialogue was hard hitting, characterization too. I think what made you really root for Able Team was that the hostages had a "life" to them too, you really wanted them to help Able Team kick butt. Of course the action didn't hurt, and I think Mack made a cameo at the end, or was that vol. 1? If they ever thought about doing an "Able Team" movie, this would be a candidate for a script. ( Not number one, The Tower Terror, everyone would think it was a Die Hard clone) This deserves a thumbs up; 8 out of 10.

Classic Able Team at their finest. They just don't write Able Team like this anymore I'm sad to say. Seeing this book again makes me miss the days of Able Team having their own book series.

I am currently reading #23 , and after all the Able books I've read, I think this was the best overall. This book has all the action that is a trademark for the Able series. I liked the suspense of the house to house search in this one.

Able Team comes to Catalina Island when armed outlaw bikers take over. The biker thugs' demand for gold only gets them lots of lead, compliments of Lyons, Blancanales, Schwarz and some locals. I have to admit straight off that I really liked this book. Lots of action from the beginning to the end. Along with Able Team's penetration of the island and systematic elimination of bikers there's another plot line about a group of island locals who don't give up when their neighbors are taken hostage. This book has great villains: outlaw bikers. If an author can't make a great book out of Able Team blowing away scores of outlaw bikers he should go back to selling real estate. Bikers are the most loathsome villains you can have except for the nazis. And these bikers are so horribly evil that you almost want to cheer every time one gets ushered across to the next world. This time around Able Team gets their armaments from Andrezj Konzaki and he sets them up nicely with enough firepower to do the job. There's a Beretta 93R and it sees quite a bit of action. From the first resistance of some island locals to the biker scum until Able Team cleans up the last of them this story has action from wall to wall. I don't know if an Able Team book can ever get to a 10 star rating but this one came damn close. 9 very well deserved stars.

My favorite of all the Able Team books. This one really moves. The plot lines of citizens trying to evade the invading hordes is a really tense sequence. And Able kicks some big-time ass in this. An exciting classic.
