Hawaiian Hellground

Mack is in the aloha state and its hotter than ever. I give this book 7 stars. I liked Mack's visit to the punchbowl. This was a prelude to the Stonyman project I liked the SOG team of Smiley Toby and Carl along with Anders. I liked the references to the Phoenix. And the Army Gunship involvement I thought that the whole King Fire thing was kind of far fetched. Starting St Louis Showdown Next

The title opens nicely with a couple of sniper shots from a ridiculous distance and follows up with a probe into the building where that had just taken place. Over and over all the Big Guy hears relates to King Fire. What is King Fire? "If you must romp, then go find King Fire. That's where it's really at, soldier" he is told. "A very hush-hush place somewhere near Volcanoes National Park. That's on the big island. Something very curious is going on there. Sounds like your kind of place." Coming across Tommy Anders, Carl Lyons and Toby Ranger who are all undercover investigating what he is looking into he is informed that Smiley Dublin is also a member of the undercover group but has not been seen for weeks. The over all plot is obscure where even after finishing the title I am not really sure whether it was the Mob and renegade Chinese Military getting together or just the Chinese military trying to pull a bluff campaign locating nuclear missiles within launching distance of cities in the US. Possibly just a little bit of further intrigue by the author on previously alluded to connections between the Mob and the Chinese Military which will relate to future titles. A soft probe of a General Chung's fortress follows where Smiley Dublin is located who has been undercover at that location. A second hard attack on General Chung's fortress with the Big Guy using a hang glider to rescue Smiley Dublin with the assistance of Carl Lyons and Toby Ranger is some of the sweetest reading going in this series talk about by the numbers this one goes down to the second superb reading. The General is on the run back to his secret location so it is hoped when On a boat escaping from the beach rescue of Smiley Dublin in company with Carl Lyons and Tommy Anders the Big Guy's worst nightmare comes to pass as a police helicopter starts to hover above the boat ordering them to come to a halt and be boarded. Then a second helicopter joins the first and what appears to be an animated discussion happens between the crews of the two helicopters and well you just have to read this section it is worth reading the title for this section alone. Onwards we go to the secret location and a fitting ending is served up where everything is destroyed and all players are accounted safe and well. Another very good read in the series with an above average amount of very good action scenes included and basically none of Tommy Anders comic routine having to be plodded through this time around, recommended reading once again.

Wow! This book is fantastic. There is quite of few negative comments on this book, but I don't really understand why. This is a great read and sets up many of the forthcoming books and series. The Executioner ends up in Hawaii on a lead and ends up running into an international scene. He goes on a mob hunt, but soon learns that its much bigger than that. I don't see this as a loose plot or bad writing. I think Pendleton greatly expanded the storyline and (again) setup Bolan for bigger things in the future. I also think we see tremendous character development with the SOG group and especially with Brognola. The scene where Hal "turns the other way" is clear evidence of him using Bolan for the govt's need. The only thing keeping this from a 10 is the carryover from "Firebase Seattle" ... too short a closing scene. If DP would've developed a lengthier closing scene, this book would've been an easy 10. Very interesting, it was a kind of an early Stony Man Novel. Great characters and as always some really great moments, great opening and some sniper moments early on in this one. But like alot of this era Executioners we are left with too many questions, there HAS been a hint of Mob / Chinese connection for some time, but we are still left in the dark on too many details. An OK read.

This book was a great read. I would have never have thought that Mack would go to Hawaii and have to take on the Chinese government. That was a great twist that kept the action flowing through the whole book. Mack had some old friends return again in this one that helps the plot. This is the best book in the series that I have read so far. It was hard to put it down after I got started.

Well, as usually I rarely find the mafia war books great ones as there is something about them that I don´t find very interesting. Maybe because the plot is often quite lame and lacks supspense and mystery? Perhaps because the mafia seems to be just a bunch of stupid secure characters who leave very little behind after each book? This book started out as a very interesting one but after general Chang was introduced to the story and the focus shifted from the mafia to Chang and his gang, the story became very boring and full of holes as the plot really didn´t add up and left me with lots of unanswered questions like; What was Chang´s game? Was he working on his own or for the Chinese government? What was his connection with the maffia? Why was the maffia working with Chang? This book though did have some interested moments mainly because of the great support cast of Anders, Smiley, Carl and Topy as it´s always great to see Bolan having a friend or friends fighting with him during his endless war. It´s also very interesting to witness the development of the special relationship between the friends for life, Bolan and Hal. Sadly, this book was just less than average reading but it could have been much better after the interesting few chapters........!!!!

When The Executioner takes his war on the mob to Hawaii he gets involved in a bigger plot and teams up with some old allies to finish off the bad guys. Bolan opens with hits on local mob bosses and follows the trail to another organization with deadly plans. A soft probe, a hard hit and more action in the aftermath and the chase, a clash at the beach and a final assault on the main location provide plenty of excellent action. Add in the chance to see so many familiar faces and it works magic with the Executioner formula. The only thing keeping this one from getting to 10 stars is the lack of truly great moments of insight about the big guy and his thoughts. But everything else is here and thrills are guaranteed. A solid 9 star tale from Mr. Pendleton.

I ENJOYED THIS ONE. THE GANG'S ALL HERE FROM ANDERS TO THE RANGER GIRLS TO LYONS WORKING TOGETHER TO FIGHT THE MOB AND THEY COME OUT ON TOP.

Fairly entertaining.
