Detroit Deathwatch

Mack is back and this time Detroit is the target. Enjoyed this entry alot. I liked Toby in this book;But whats with all the captain this and that. Thought the police Lieutenant was a good character. He came close to nailing Mack at the police station. Mack really likes to stick his neck out. The scene with georgette was heart breaking. 9 star effort.

Set in Detroit this title is supposed to be a quick entry to a Mob hard site destroy everything and a quick escape to pastures greener as the overwhelming odds against any sort of prolonged exposure in the city spell disaster for the Big Guy but the plan goes to hell when he stumbles across Toby Ranger on the hard site and a hasty retreat is called for. Georgette Chableau one of the Ranger Girls is missing and has been for some time supposedly held at the hard site now mobbed up as a result of the prematurely ended assault on it with another assault being considered a suicide play. Very good scene here as the Big Guy in desperate need for intelligence on what the Police are doing infiltrates the strike teams headquarters to obtain information of their planning and the move to the motor pool to obtain an unmarked vehicle equipped with a police radio right under their noses great stuff. The first use of the codename Striker in relation to the Big Guy in this title although spelled Stryker in this case is also notable. The final section relating to a further penetration of the Hard site in search of the missing Georgette and the discovery of her and what had been done to her by Sal the Turkey Doctor and the atrocities committed upon her for six days is gut churning reading resulting in the almost collapse of the Big Guy on his exit from the site. Gotta say the constant references from Toby Ranger to the Big Guy on Captain this and Captain that wears a bit thin very quickly noticeable in previous titles featuring her and quickly became grating in this title. Pretty good read here which will entertain you if you so decide to read it but other titles prior to this one are more entertaining perhaps one for the read in order fans only.

Another solid effort by Pendleton, but not among his best. The book has some really good points, but it wasn't an overwhelming success from cover to cover as many of his others have been (2-4, 14, 17-18). I enjoyed the opening sequence. He did a great job of bring the reader up to the speed with current events and Bolan laid out a wonderful plan to infiltrate the Detroit mob. The author also continued to develop repeat characters. Detroit Deathwatch continues to bring along Turrin and Brognola, and the Bolan-Brognola relationship inches ever more closer to what we understand in the recent Executioner/Stony Man series. There are also minor repeat characters. Overall, the book just didn't have the pace and heart-pounding action that the great books have come to be known by. It's a good read and enjoyable story, it's just not Pendleton's best. By the way, I do agree with "Carl Lyons" below ... regarding Bolan's handling of Sal. I though it was much too easy and probably emblematic of his Sgt Mercy characteristics.

Extensive shootout book with Bolan blitzing thought Detroit in his one man mission of death against the stupid Mafia boys. This is just the same cliché over and over again with nothing new or a fresh approach to the Mafia war saga. To spoil the fun both for Bolan and the reader, Toby Rangers arrives on the scene with here “usual charm”. Why is Toby Rangers popping up sometimes? She is a very lame character with her constant name calling when it comes to Bolan. It is very tough to take her serious as an undercover cop and instead easier to take her serious as a dumb blond chick more willing to spread her legs than being a serious cop. I really love it when writers allow Bolan to think outside the box using new methods in his quest. One of the fresh yet too short part of the book was when Bolan walked into the police station and got the low down on the law inforcement strategy against him and the places being tag for watching and patrolling. The end was personal and very emotional one for Bolan and I would have preferred to have more made out of it in the end but well……..it was still a very one written part. I would have preferred to have this book a more solid one from start to finish, especially with the emotional part of it in mind. (Iceland - 2007)

Great book! so far all of the original Executioner books have all been excellent.(1-19 and The New War Book) ps. Bolan has a lot more mercy than me. If I was Bolan after I show what Sal did to Georgette I would not have let him die fast, by the explosion, but shot his kneecaps. After that I would set the explosion and get the heck out of there! Try to find as many Executioner books as you can and buy them. Check half.com if they are not in a used book store.

The Executioner's plan for a hard hit on the Detroit mob's hard site takes a strange turn when he encounters an old friend in trouble. One of the lady cops from Bolan's Vegas mission is looking for one of her partners. With mob crews pouring into town and the cops after him The Executioner continues to look for the missing girl who may be in the clutches of the mafia's white slavers. The opening hit is pure Executioner excitement and lasts for a good while. There is a bit of action in the middle and then Pendleton pours it on for a roaring finish with action and evasion in a desperate mission to locate the lady. Good sections between the action here with Bolan again doing a lot of thinking about his place in the cosmic scheme and what it all means. Pendleton does this very well and makes these as important to the story of Mack Bolan and the high-speed acion scenes. The cops in this book are particularly well written and they seem to be actual living men rather than just obstacles for Bolan to avoid. This book is another very solid 8 star tale. With just one more action scene this one would have had one more star.

A good book. Very emotional for Mack in this one.

Pretty good. The death of Georgette Chableau was a gut-twister.
