A nearly bankrupt Russia turns to the U.S. when three top nuclear scientists are kidnapped by a former KGB general turned Mafia don. The President sends the ransom - and Mack Bolan. Bolan's mission is compromised by those who've put a price on his head: the Moscow police, the old KGB, and the CIA, despite amnesty from the Oval Office. But nothing will deter the Executioner from sending the mob kingpin and his American conspirator back to Hell. Even if he has to escort them there personally.

This book moves along with a good flow and pace, I read it within two days easily, and overall I thought this was a better than average entry in the series. Some atomic scientists are being held in Russia as part of a fake kidnapping scheme, but the master of the plan is a former KGB bigwig, now a Russian mafia kingpin, and so enters our favorite anti-mafia/KGB hero, Mack Bolan. More is at stake, with the scientists actually being used without their knowledge as pawns to sell them and their plutonium to the Iranians for big money. The plot thickens with a former CIA operative making the transaction for the Russian mobster. Bolan soon hooks up with a female sidekick, an excellent ally in this novel, and so the action begins, shootouts and chases and some cloak and dagger stuff thrown in as the plot moves along. Action scenes are standard, but overall, the balance of characters, plot, dialogue, and action is done well, with no dull moments, and everything is wrapped up nicely by the end. My only problem with this book was the end of chapter 21. It seems as though the editors chopped off the end of it, there seemed to be something missing. Bolan’s female ally is a captive, yet her perspective is not shown. Somehow she finds a way to a phone, then beginning with chapter 22, Bolan is at the house rescuing her. It is up to the reader what she did to escape and up to the reader to assume that her message got to Bolan. There is some story content missing there. Aside from this, the book was solid, I give it a strong 8.

Very good read with a believable storyline. The action flows and flows and it is the type of book that you don't want to put down as what is going to happen next. I thought the doctoring of the cash ransom money was classic with the Mafia guy finding out the hard way well done Hal. TWO STARS DEDUCTED !!!! Is it written in the stars that anyone who assists Mack in his missions MUST die prior to the end of the book? Come on can't we let a couple of them survive and maybe return in future books.

What an action-packed plot driven excellent entry into the Bolan series. I really liked the author's style of moving the plot along and keeping things interesting. I also liked how the ex-KGB general started out as the main villain then it switched to his partner the ex-CIA agent as the main villain then in the end it was the Iranian intelligence guy. The woman helping Bolan were very interesting characters, too bad the Russian Major got killed before her & Bolan could hook up. Brognola's somewhat larger part than usual in this book was a plus too. I especially liked, and this made the book a 10 to me, how they figured out Special Agent Belasko was really the legendary Mack Bolan by his appearance & modus operandi - lol I was nice continuity to hear how the baddies remembered Bolan thrashing the mafia in the U.S. and refering to when Bolan took out Strahkov & the KGB bigwigs in the 'Moscow Massacre'.

This book was great and there was a great deal of suspense all though the plot in general and Bolan´s mission was clear from the start. It was great to have Brognola playing a bit more that his usual small supporting role in the books and actually being in the field with his friend for a change. This book is very similar to the Super Bolan "Onslaught" as both books take place in Russia and are written in a similar way. The characters were interesting but sadly the author found some strange need to kill of Bolan´s main fighting partner in the book as it would have been great to keep him in a repeated role during Bolan´s future mission in Russia. This was an overall great book and well worth reading!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was the first Mack Bolan book that I ever read. I first read this book back in 1998. I never knew there could be such adventure all contained in a book that small. It has been from that time forward that I have been hooked on "The Executioner stories as well as the "SuperBolans, and "Stony Man" This book caught my eye because it has to do with Bolan's primary war against the Mafia. Bolan hates anyone that is associated with the Mafia. The character development was good. Worst I hated to see the woman in this book that worked along side of Bolan die towards the end of the book. I think she had a lot to do with Bolan's success in the mission. The plot of the story kept me interested. It took me two days to read the book. This is definitely going to be one I will never forget. Keep them coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
