Into the Maze

The second part of this storyline and it is much better than the first part. The characters set up in the first part really come together in this title where at times you are wondering who is actually on whose side. The action scenes in this title come to the fore with the freeway shootouts and the final assault on the headquarters of the International the standout. But the bad guys get away yet again. One thing to be said for the allies of Unomundo they appear to be as slippery to catch as their boss. This is a pretty good read but you really should read the previous title to know what is going on even if it is a little slow.

Here's a gem from the ancient days when Able Team routinely operated outside of the U.S. This book betrays the hit film 'Betrayal' by a good 16 years in terms of dealing with the insidiousness of drug-running out of Mexico. And Carl Lyons has rarely been better. Frost shows great handling in terms of letting action carry the day. A true page-turner that I read straight through on a recent plane trip, if you count the time I spent hanging out in the terminal to finish the last few chapters because I didn't want to put it down. A classic if you can find it at a used book store like I did.

The action in "Into the Maze" picks up where "Scorched Earth" left off. Able is on their way to Mexico City to strike at the head of the International operation in Mexico. With their Yaqi allies they take the fight to the baddies. Some plot twists were inserted to cast doubt on some allies but the narrative mostly serves to move Able, and especially Lyons, from firefight to firefight and keep the excitement level high. And there was much rejoicing. Great action scenes involving shootouts in moving vehicles and on city streets. The best is saved for last though with Able leading an assault against the high-rise HQ of the bad guys. Excellent action with lead flying and Ironman's Atchison shredding evildoers. Able and their allies suffer some wounds and the whole episode maintains tension and high excitement. Supporting characters are adequate to the task but not exceptional. Great and frequent action carries this book to the 8 star level.

With a cover this cool, it just has to be a good book. And it is, a sequel to scorched earth, I enjoyed this one a lot more.

I enjoyed this one a little more than Scorched Earth. It continued the story of Ables battle with the International. Overall, a good read.

This one was literally a sequel 10 years in the waiting. But dot hamn, this was worth the wait. Especially since it set the seeds for the Ironman trilogy of 19-21. Early Able Team was the best.And this is the proof.
