Sudden Fury

The title of this one says it all. The action starts rather suddenly, and the rest of the way is totally furious. Bolan is ambushed left and right on Jamaica, as he tries to halt a Colombian/Jamaican cartel union. Leaving the enemy battered, bloodied and dead, Bolan hits their drug warehouse hard, then obliterates a jungle base camp...right after playing cat and mouse with mercs in the jungle. Had sort of a weak finale, but Bolan using mainly his fists against a Korean giant and the head mercenary was good enough to rate this a solid 8.

Wow, Bolan's adventure in this book is relentlessly non-stop action, keeping him busy with barely time to take a breath. His mission is to stop a Columbian drug network from taking root in Jamaica, and also to prevent an assasination of a top level DEA agent. While the plot is nothing original, what this novel provides is an action reader's action book. Beaten, bloody, and kicking much ass, Bolan blitzes his way through droves of various drug ring badguys in the streets, in buildings, on boats, on docks, in jungles, and an awesome hand to hand battle with a couple different villains at the end. Bolan takes a beating, going from falling off a cliff, crashing in a chopper, getting shot up, beaten and defying great odds, to take down his enemies. The main villains are many, but the author manages to give all of them a unique character and they all tie together in their scheme very well. Bolan's allys don't live long in this book, but then nobody lives long in this story, a very classic Bolan blitz. His infiltration of the badguy's operations are awesome, and his skills are taken to the limit. Mike Linaker shows even from his earliest Executioner works that he is one of the best post-Pendleton Bolan writers ever. Read it!

Sudden Fury pulls me in two directions at once. On one hand I loved it but on the other the book did not satisfy. Linaker has delivered some powerhouse novels but this one is not. It had Linaker’s trademark action and personality making it well above average when compared to other titles in the series. However it begins to fall flat in it’s execution, so to speak. Bolan is an interesting and compelling character as always and the story is well structured if a bit over simplistic. The pacing begins to falter when Bolan declares a blitz and then spends a bunch of time not killing and destroying. It is jerky in it goes in fits and starts instead of the smooth flow I am accustom to from this author. The villains are unclear and I was left not caring if they lived or died. The plot of the drug operation was fine but as soon as Bolan destroys it the remainder just seemed forced. There were too many faces and no clear view of the power structure. The “main” villain began seeming like a henchman. In all it was hard to understand how Bolan’s fight was going when it is unclear who the biggest threat is. Sudden Fury was not boring or ill paced to the point that it was a bad read but Linaker ahs done better. While its flaws are very pronounced Sudden Fury is miles above many of the titles in the series.

Terrific book I loved it. Great action scenes and the writing style keeps you turning the pages to find out what is going to happen next. I totally agree that it is fantastic reading whenever the villan finds out the identity of the man on his trail. Highly recommended. my two bobs worth........

Well, first of all...............I really can´t understand why this book has received the praise in the past. From my point of view it is a little above the average all though there were some high points throughout the book.. One thing this book though which too many lack and that is a exciting great ending but often the ending of the books is short and simple like the authors run out of breath during last mile in the book. This one was to the point and a great finish to the book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is always great when the villains find out that they are up against the man and how intimidated the name "Mack Bolan" is. I didn´t have any high hopes for this book so it lived up to that one but nothing more as it was not often very entertaining and didn´t leave much after the final page. Sometimes that is life.............. (2004)

Awesome Executioner! The writing is crystal clear and smooth. The action is there! Bolan is the lone wolf. Top Notch.

This book rocked, wall to wall action. Linnaker knows how to write Bolan books. I loved it when the ex-CIA merc realized he was going up against Mack Bolan. I also liked the subtle references to events of the 'Medellin Trilogy' that were mentioned. I only wished the lady Jamaican cop hadn't been killed off and had stuck around to help Bolan. I give this one a 10 out of 10.
