An undercover Seattle cop is in hot water after discovering that a U.S. senator and a Russian mob boss are in business together. But with his fellow officers on the senator's payroll, the detective has no one to trust and nowhere to hide until he runs into Mack Bolan.
While fleeing dirty cops who want to silence him, the police officer is nearly hit by Bolan's SUV. The desperate detective is shot and collapses. Bolan rescues the injured man and takes up his fight. But the killers are relentless and the warrior may be too late to save the two people who can tell him where the evidence has been hidden: the officer's wife and young son. Fired on at each turn and with the body count growing, the Executioner knows he must stop the corruption at the source before more innocent lives are lost.

Really entertaining book. Huge coincidence as to how Bolan gets involved, but trouble does have a way of finding the big guy. For some reason I really liked the hired hand helicopter pilot, I thought that was a nice touch. The villains were great, which is what I always look for. Lots of great characters along the way.
Well here we go with this author with the same old being released yet again.
Again a pretty original interesting plot.
Again an excellent fast paced storyline which will keep you interested and turning the pages.
Again a bunch of excellent characters introduced.
Again excellent action scenes with plenty of hand to hand stuff.
Again an ending which ties the title off perfectly.
Again nothing like spelling mistakes or grammar errors to upset your reading.
Again you will fly through this one if you give it a go.
Again and Again I love yet another title by this author.
Do yourself a favour and read this one recommended reading in this series.
Unlike #300, there was no special event that set this apart. Not sure what they could do at this point, but I still enjoyed the story. It took a little bit to get going, but once it did, it was classic Linaker action. The gun battles in the wilderness were explosive, then the Big Guy unleashes his Effect on the legion of scum. The Vigo character was fairly cool, but there wasn't enough time to flesh him out completely.
Bolan, of course mixes well with the Logan's and their son, and the villains are vile as usual. Good, crisp finale...and the last page also makes a quick remark about Bolan getting "old".
I'll take this review in two parts: the book and the event.
First, the book. I rather enjoyed the book. There was a nice blend of action -- Executioner style -- with a solid plot. Bolan (literally) stumbles on a cop in trouble and is soon thrust into political intrigue. Cops, thugs, politicians ... this book has it all and the story is tied together quite nicely.
The author draws you into the story with enjoyable characters and develops the characters quite well. I was very soon personally attached to the story, page after page.
Secondly, the event. I was very disappointed in the absolutely dismissal of the significance of the 400th book. A cute little 1-inch sticker in the top left corner, really? That is good as we can get after 40 years of support from the readers and fans? It sure would've been nice to get some consideration of the history and success of the series. I sure am thankful for this website ...

Where to start with book 400? Let's start on the outside. And like SuperBolan 100 and Stony Man 100 the good people at Gold Eagle decided to celebrate this milestone by doing......absolutely nothing. So low is their disinterest in what they sell that the author was unaware that he had written book 400 until he was informed on this website. Gold Eagle didn't even bother to phone or write an email asking for something a little different, even though that had happened for book 300 (despite that author handling it badly). So 400 didn't even register on GE's radar. A big fat zero for effort.
And what about the cover? What do we have there? A special stand out cover? No, what we get is a supermarket price tag in the upper left hand corner. That's all there is to celebrate 400. Why bother getting out of bed, Gold Eagle? Staying on the cover, the incidents on the lower section do not take place in the story. It is the wrong helicopter and it certainly does not blow up, the cabin doesn't catch fire, and in any event why is the cabin out of scale compared to the helicopter? Very poorly done, mr photoshop cover artist. Like the people at Gold Eagle you too get a zero for your lack of effort.
As for the story itself, as already stated the author was unaware that it was 400 so wrote a regular Mack Bolan adventure and quite a low key one it was. Bolan happens to be in Seattle (finishing something but we are not told what) when he stumbles onto a plot involving a corrupt senator and a Russian gangster after rescuing a police officer. Bolan proceeds to follow the clues leaving a trail of bodies in his wake. There are some very good stand out scenes in the novel, the gunfight in the small town half way through the adventure (when the bad guys helicopter lands in the middle of the street) and the second gunfight at the cabin (involving the waterfall). However there were items n the story that jarred. I couldn't understand why the senator wanted to involve himself with a Russian gangster when the whole plot revolved around oil drilling rights. Surely the senator being as rich and as powerful as he was could have found a better partner? Equally confusing was the evidence gather by the one good cop, Logan. Surely he knew that illegal wiretaps and searches would work in a court. So what was he planning to do? His moaning towards the end of the novel ("..It was all for nothing! My evidence is wasted! The senator is going to get away with it..") had a very false ring to it. Did he expect things to be any different or was he really so naive?
So all in all an average entry in the Bolan series, the finger of blame points not at the author but at the people in 225 Duncan Mill Rd, Don Mills, Canada who have once again demonstrated that they really couldn't give a damn (and to be fair I do know that Gold Eagle are chronically understaffed, and that this lack of commitment and interest stems from higher up the food chain).
WARNING SPOILERS
another good read! Bolan bumps into a Seattle cop named Logan who has gone off the grid because he is deep in hot water. A Russian "businessman" and a US Senator are out to get him because he has evidence that could spoil their corrupt oil stealing plan. I must say the whole "un-taped Alaskan oil" story is getting a bit tired and old. So the plot is pretty weak in this one, but the baddies were great (well the main baddies)! Vigo is just pure evil. Trust me on that, read this book and you will see why. Aside from the tired plot my other problem is the henchman of the main villans are really stupid. A 15 year old kid who has only played Call of Duty would have better combat tactics than these dolts. Bolan slaughters these fools. Still the action is solid and the setting is great. This book is very much like Nuclear Storm. That being said it will get the same rating. 7 stars.
