White Heat

This was one of the best Bolans I've read in a while. After a brief prologue the story jumps into the action, and from there on out the author finds an ideal balance of action and taking a breather to continue the story. The character of Maria also serves as one of the better examples of letting the reader see Bolan through a stranger's eyes. The story is well-constructed, and the finale was one of the best in the series (at least of the books I've read.) My only complaint would be that the plot was a bit "by-the-numbers" - it seems every other book in the series around this time dealt with yet another vicious drug kingpin who is the most ruthless of all and about to make a major move to take over the market. But this doesn't bother me as much in the Bolan series as it does in others, like the James Bond series. This would be a good book for newcomers to the Bolan series to read.

Loved it. This is the first of many titles by this author in the series and if this is anything to go on I am looking forward to his future titles. The manner of writing by this author involving plot and character development is woven together and very well done and comes to a very nice climax. Highly recommended read. my two bobs worth........

This was an enjoyable entry in the series by one of the Trailsman writers. Bolan mission is to track down some drug dealers, and along the way he runs into a woman who is after the same people. I liked the way this woman's crusade against the drug lord kind of mirrored Bolan's own beginning when he went after the Mafia. I thought the interaction between Bolan and the woman was done very well and how he understood what she was going through. Although White Heat is standard as far as Executioner adventures go, I thought a strong point in the novel was the more human way Mack was portrayed, you read his thoughts and emotions, and his reasonings and so forth. This was the kind of thing I found lacking in the last Executioner I read: Fire Hammer #215. Decent action scenes, interesting villains, and three dimensional characters make this book a better than average read.

Bolan is about to dispense his brand of justice to a druglord in Florida when a woman puts herself in the crossfire. Bolan aborts the mission in an attemp to rescue her, and ends up seriously wounded. After recovery, it's back against the druglord. Props to this one for having Mack take a serious injury. Although the recovery perios seemed to brief, it still was refreshing to see him out of it and not the invulnerable superhero. Also good was Brognola's reaction. How often must Bolan be out of contact unexpectedly? "White Heat" showed what Brognola's attitude is while Mack is MIA. Other that that, the book is fairly average. Combat scenes are well-written and pull the reader in. The main villains are not so memorable, but the assassin after Bolan, The Jaguar, is a strong and well conceived bad guy. Overall the book is a good read.

I liked this one. The story moved flowed along quite fast. It is the usual story of Bolan takes on the drugs barons with no big suprises, but still a good read. Good scene of Bolan being told that he was taking in his sleep about Stony Man, April Rose etc. The only complaint that I would have is that Bolan recovered to fast from his dog bites. One chapter he is on death's door from blood loss, the next chapter it is as if nothing happened.

Excellent book. I really liked this one. The female character was a good addition to the story. Plenty of action kept the story flowing along nicely. My favorite part was where Bolan was recuperating at the woman's house and she overheard him talking in his sleep about april, johnny, stonyman. This was a good example of continuity as well as showing the ghosts and memories that haunt Bolan.

ANOTHER THUMBS UP ON THE WAR AGAINST DRUGS. BOLAN BLITZES ON AND TAKES THE FIGHT TO THE ENEMY VICTORIOUSLY. THIS CARTEL SEEMS TO BE OUT OF TIME OUTS! THE WOMAN WAS A NICE ADDITION ALSO AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN MORE BOOKS.
