An eco-terrorist group has set up base in a secluded part of Yellowstone National Park with a plan to save the planet. Believing mankind is a virus that must be eradicated, the group has set in motion a plot to kill millions in seconds and leave the rest of the human race on the verge of extinction. Nothing will throw them off course- including any campers who try to stop them. But Mack Bolan isn't your average outdoorsman.

This is a borderline 7 star. Not badly written and with some interesting references to people back at Stony Man Farm. But the problem with it is that the book is two short stories placed together in a single cover and neither has any relation to the other. The first part involves tracking down a North Korean defector who has run off to join the party scene, part two deals with Bolan on vacation and dealing with Nuke of the Week in Yellowstone park. And that is the second problem. Okay, these terrorists want to end the world as we know it. But there is no reason given for wanting to do this. The characters are all cardboard cut-outs which was disappointing. So, okay written but not a wonderful book.

This entry reminds me of an 80's action flick, sit back and enjoy the mindless action joy ride! Nonstop action from start to finish as Bolan thinks he's going to have a one on one with nature and rejuvenate before the next flare up in the war everlasting. Bolan finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time as would be planet slayers want no witnesses and think they have a camper weaponless and shoeless until bodies start falling like timber in the forest. Enter female park ranger, strong, excellent character and Bolan ally. Both take their share of licks while playing cat and mouse with the enemy in rough terrain. I liked the use of the natural surroundings but would have liked a bit more- somebody should have met their demise in a bubbling mudpot!

Another very good titles from this author I reckon. The Big Guy is off to the wilderness to grab a couple of days of R and R and you know he is probably kidding himself and so it turns out. Eco terrorists whose leader is ex Spetnatz and has trained them into a formidable fighting unit is about to launch their major campaign detonating a nuclear device on a fault line in the states and decimating most of the planets population in the process. OK a Nuke of the month story I know you are thinking to yourself and so it is but that doesn't mean it is not worthy of you picking this one up and giving it a go. Right from the start when the Big Guy is dragged into the affair weapon less you are reading some good stuff here. Enter the female National Park Ranger who is a very good character inserted and you will be taken away on a story which will keep you entertained from start to finish. Lots of action scenes to enjoy with the highlight maybe the female ally in an unarmed combat section with one of the female terrorists good stuff indeed. Lots of good sniper scenes inserted within the chase through the National park and a good level of interest throughout. Indeed the finishing sections are excellent and this one is recommended reading in this series enjoy.

I was a very disappointed in this book. After reading 393, I was really looking forward to "Nuclear Storm" as Helfers was outstanding in that effort (rated 393 a "9"). Nuclear Storm didn't have any real character development, the plot was somewhat weak, and the ending was extremely poor. The introduction was quite enticing and had me captured early on as the opening scene was entertaining. However, Bolan's introduction into the story was lame as Helfer's again brought us into a "Bolan stumbles on a plot" scenario. While he nailed it in 393, Nuclear Storm never developed the same excitement. The idea of these eco-terrorists outrageous goal, the park ranger's involvement, and the atrocious chase scene at the end left little lasting value. Again, 393 is one of my favorites and really up'd my anticipation for Nuclear Storm, but this was probably my biggest letdown in the series.

pretty good. would have liked more back story on the terrorists because the seemed to have an interesting story but it was not explained in enough detail for me. i like to know the reasons the crazies are crazy.park rangers and the female park ranger, she was pretty boring. also just way too convenient how Bolan just randomly stumbles onto these dudes bent on world destruction while he is on vacation. but overall i would say it is worth a read, good action and setting, but a little shallow.
