Blood Price

A fairly good entry in the series, with Bolan leading a band of fellow warriors on a treacherous trek across the Middle Eastern desert towards a dictator's fortress. Fans of military fiction will find a lot to like here, as Bolan must rely as much on tactics and instinct as firepower due to the open terrain and the enormous disparity in numbers between his squad and the enemy. The book's biggest deficiency is that it seems remarkably easy for Bolan to sneak into the city surrounding the fortress. Considering how mentally unstable Nassim is and his threats to wipe out all the hostages at the first hint of a rescue attempt, Bolan and his comrades don't seem to have that much trouble in their mission. I also found the book to be a little repetitive after a while. Not bad overall, but I've read better.

Well what a strange read. The plot is miniscule and you are constantly wondering why Bolan would accept a mission like this from Brognola. Plenty of characters introduced so many in fact you lose track during the reading on occasions backtracking what you have already read to pick up on who just got what. BUT it turns out quite a good read. It certainly keeps you turning the pages which is a priority for me. This title probably would have been better released as a Super Bolan title giving the author space to expand the details of the characters he introduced. Recommended as a reasonable read in the series another in the middle of the range. my two bobs worth.......

This is one of the more unique stories I have read in this long-running series, and I really enjoyed it. What is basicly a hostage rescue mission for Bolan, this simple plot manages to provide one of the best books this author had written, and I was surprised at how good this book turned out to be. The author likes to have a large cast of characters, and in this case, we have a number of allies Bolan works with on his rescue mission. Ok, so Phoenix Force and Able Team weren't available, but these guys were a great team and Bolan worked well with them. The whole novel takes place in a country near Iran, and the story is about Bolan and his party's journey through a hostile land in a mountainous desert landscape. I liked the flow of this book, and the tension of the enemy pursuit, the great rescue scene and other action throughout the novel. I almost took a star away due to the lack of fleshing out the main villian, Nassim. He was pretty much left in the background as a cardboard badguy, but I thought the author did such a good job with the story in the limited 220 pages he had to work with, that I have to give this book at least a nine. I really think this is a quality entry in the series, and I liked the ending. This book reminds me of Death Squad in that Bolan's team reminded me of those other guys and like when some of them didn't make it, it added some emotion to the reading. Too bad this was the last book by Furst, but he left with a winner.

I did not like the fictional country aspect. I vastly prefer realworld locations. The villian Nissam was a typical megalomanic dictator/religious fanatic. The action scenes were rather short scenes although for this book it worked since there were so many locales in this country Mack and his team went to. I could not figure out why they dropped Mack and his team so far away from the capital. Ok 20 miles out but nearly half of the country away. I liked the teammates and it was fun watching Mack being a teamleader. Also the idea of having to escape the country was fun to read. Mack didn't seem like Mack though. The Mack I knew would not have hesitated to rescue the last hostage. It seemed like he was motivated only when he found out she was American. As long as he thought she was Sudanese he didn't really seem to care. Also why didn't Mack seem to want to overthrow the dictator while he was over there? This is the guy that dropped Mafia bosses left and right. You would think he would have said "lets rescue the hostages, get them safe then we will take out this animal man." The traitor could he have acted so stupidly? Didn't he realize that as soon as he ran out to the enemy saying he was friends of the dictator.He would be shot by his fellow hostages and teammates? A 6. Read it if you have time it is fast paced and fun.

This story was awful. Carl Furst has created a fictional country, and the meglomanical leader has captured hostages of different nations. How he did this, or why remains unknown. Every country wants to send in a rescue team, and in the end Bolan leads a mixed team of different nationals. Every single character is instantly forgettable. When some of them were killed, I was wondering which one it was, and I really couldn't care. When the hostages are rescued, even more cardboard cutouts are thrown into the mix. I felt that Furst had lost track of who was who, as there were around 16 good guys in the whole story. Then there was the mission plan......ummmh, parachute in, walk, and walk, and walk, assault the baddies palace, then walk and walk and walk. In fact there wasn't a plan at all, and the mission should have failed from the start. So, poor characters, little plot, and a never ending supply of ammunition did not make this a memorable story. Not one to be recommended

I thought it was a decent enough story. I liked the rescue team's journey through hostile territory.

I didn't like Bolan teaming up with a rescue team. The plot was horrible! What a yawner!
