Warrior's Edge

Another reasonable read with nothing startling about this title. The plot is interesting and some of Mack's allies are quite good characters to read. The action keeps rolling on throughout the title but never seems to reach out and grab you which is disappointing. my two bobs worth........

This book reads like a rocket, a very well paced, smartly written adventure taking place in a small African country near the desert. I never heard of Zandesi, perhaps it's fictional?, but the political situation here was realistic and believable, and the villains were written well. I liked Bolan's main ally, Molembe. He was a very competent commander, and I liked how he had connections with his supporters in the city. I like the flow of this author's writing, and the battle scenes were done well. My only complaint was Bolan himself was a cardboard personality for much of the book, but otherwise there was nothing wrong with his character. I really liked his lone infiltration of the export company. One thing I missed, as another reviewer mentioned, was an ending pitting Bolan one on one with Fowler, the bad dude portrayed on the cover. A nasty villain, but he kind of went out with a whimper. This is a great story about a nation fighting back against a wanna-be dictator. With help from the nastiest man in black of them all.

Wow! I loved this novel. Yes Mack was a supporting character in this novel but the story was excellent and it came across as believable with Mack being a supporting role. This tale really was about two men Fowler who wanted to take over the fictitious west African nation and Mulembe the head of security of the nation. Mulembe he to take over the nation while Fowler had the president elect kidnapped. Mack was there to support Mulembe. The action scenes were good. The massacre scene which solely had Fowler and his Desert Knights killing of upper middle class and wealthy party goers at a dance was very well written. The firefight in the mountains though was so-so at the first 1/3 part of the novel. Mack acted like a soldier and an advisor which was believable for the story. He made few decisions and only advised. I did like the interrogation scene between Mack and the merc Australian. The scenes in the cave with the captured president elect and his staff for some odd reason reminded me too much of a Phoenix Force novel that also took place in Africa - South Africa. Fowler was a very fun villian. Mulembe was a fantastic character. One hand being tough yet also balancing it with mercy - all to keep a lid on the civil war. Read the novel very well worth your time.

This book was just a flat average one with a predictable ending and the plot was thin and really didn´t keep me interested all the way through. Bolan was in a support role in this book on a salvation mission in a troublesome country. There was plenty of action in the book but there was really nothing more with little or no characterization. This book is just passable reading from my point of view and nothing more!!!! (2003)

Bolan is in a fictitious West Afriican nation fighting for democracy. A mercenary is backing a puppet leader while Bolan supports the legally elected president. They fight it out ovetly and covertly. This one did not read like an Executioner. For one thing, Bolan disappears for 40 pages in the middle of the novel. Sometimes, it's alright to see other perspectives or viewpoints, but in an Excutioner, the Executioner himself shouldn't be gone for 20% of the book at a stretch. It also didn't hav the Bolan "feel". Basically, Bolan is following orders, serving in the military, or "advising". He only work solo for one brief mission. It just didn't work as an Executioner novel. The writing was good, and the plot wasn't bad, but overall, this one doesn't stack up to other novels out there. Skip it.

NOTHING SPECTACULAR. A SO-SO ENTRY. THE ACTION WAS DECENT THOUGH.

THIS ONE COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER BUT IT WAS PRETTY WEAK. A ONE-ON-ONE FIGHT AGAINST THE GUY ON THE COVER WOULD HAVE REDEFINED SAVAGERY BUT SORRY TO SAY, THIS ONE HIT ROCK BOTTOM.
