Cold War Reprise

Good read here but nowhere near this author's best work. The plot was good with the Big Guy coming up against old enemies and a couple of good characters are introduced as usual. Action scenes also as usual are fine reading indeed which allows the reader to quickly enjoy through to the end. The final section with the fight with Kroz was the standout of the title. Recommended reading in this series.

Doug Wojtowicz's books are always far too well plotted for the page constraints put upon him. He always does what he can to pack as much plotting into the novels as he can (and a damn sight more than all the other Bolan novelists, which is why I only bother to pick up his novels), but it's like he's stuck leaving out prose that would completely round out the novel. I would implore Gold Eagle to reconsider the length of the SuperBolan novels if only to allow authors like Doug to plot until complete blossom. Having said that, it was a fun read. Action packed throughout, allusions to Bolan's war on the KGB (as well as to one of Wojtowicz's previous works), a well-written intimate scene, and a race to the finish ending. I did feel that the intimate scene between Kaya and Bolan could have been better set up, but again, I blame that on novel length and not on the author. There were a couple of hints that it would happen but it accelerated fairly quickly. Also, after the final scene, there was a sudden ending that begged an epilogue, but at this point, the word limit had already been reached. Bottom line: -Gold Eagle: EXPAND THE WORD LIMIT FOR SUPERBOLANS. They're barely thicker than Executioner novels now! -Doug: Keep doing your thing, man. Kick ass.

Cold War Reprise was great! I loved the story line, the characters, the action, and the pace. The book seemed to go as quickly as a typical 180 page Executioner. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 was helicopter vs truck scene. It seemed a bit contrived and slipped to far into the action movie zone. Other than that short bit the rest of the book was awesome!

I liked this one, but it had a couple of problems. First of all, it felt more like an Executioner that had been artificially inflated with extraneous information and descriptions to get the word count up to SuperBolan requirements. I can usually deal with this, but it did manage to slow the pace of some action scenes. My only other real problem was the somewhat heavy-handed political commentary. Usually the authors are pretty good about "not taking sides" but in this one, Doug seemed to say screw it, and put his feelings on a certain former president and his policies on paper. Granted, it really only happened two or three times, but they stuck out and soured me a little. Still, all that being said, it was a good action yarn with a contemporary setting and some good old-fashioned grunt work on the part of Mack. The characters were all pretty well fleshed out, and I always like it when I find myself rooting for one of the villains...even if it only lasts for a scene or two.

A great Bolan novel from Doug. It was nice to see an old friend from Bolan's past coming back out from the woodwork. There was so much action crammed into this one I couldn't believe it all took place in a five day period. All the characters were fully developed so that people like Laserka were not just two dimensional cardboard cutouts. It was also nice to see some of Bolans personality be seen and not have him as a bland action hero. A real treat to read. Ten out of ten stars!

Another amazing entry by Doug. It was was jammed packed with with exciting, gritty, brutal action sequences-combined with an interesting plot. It was great to see Bolan go up against an old enemy. This one was filled with some of the most exciting car chase scenes, which is unusual for me because i usually dont find car chases really exciting. Overall, another solid entry.

A good SuperBolan with plenty of action and some nice hand-to-hand combat. There is a lot of talk of characters from previous stories, but I haven't read that one. But that doesn't mean there are holes in the plot either. One really nice aspect was the minimal input from the Farm in this book. Sure, they were there to help out in spots, but once help was received, Bolan was back on his own. It was also great to see Bolan almost going alone on this with no assignment to follow. This one was about getting revenge and stopping the power-hungry Russians and their ilk. Some parts did get a bit soggy with Bolan mowing down the "extras" but as far as logic and action go, this one is jam-packed.
