Deadly Tactics

Well like some of the previous reviewers I initially thought the Acid Bath mind drug was going to lead into a cracker title how wrong that turned out to be. I really don't understand why the author who has come up with a novel idea and plot line let it go so quickly considering what happens later in the title. Set in a fictional African country the Big Guy is once again there to assist the rebels in a coup to overthrow the corrupt Dictator President and his army of mercs. A few reasonable action scenes to read but nothing which would stand out and the characters introduced also lack that something to make this title one to be ranked above the also rans. Even the finish which obviously goes along the way for the Big Guy to complete his mission in a timely way is just fair reading at best. One for the diehards reading the titles in order I reckon little here to recommend for your reading pleasure.

Oh god I thought I was reading Warrior's Edge again. Mack goes into another African fictitional country and help lead a good man into taking over the country. Warrior's Edge was a far better novel then this. I liked how that book kept Mack as a supporting character. I thought Baptiste was a good man and wanted to take over the country for just reasons. I am not sure if this is what Mack's job should be though - helping in coups. He did what he had to with the lady chemist maker of the Acid Bath that fries the brain so one can get info. Not sure why he didn't kill her when he had the chance. Her skills were killing people and Mack has killed people for a whole lot less. A huge plot hole. Why did the gang flee France? I was not sure why Mack got them to leave France so quickly. It seemed like Mack was in England then went to Africa. The action scenes were pretty short except at the end when Mack and gang stormed the palace. The use of manniquens to confuse the british merc was quite clever and rather funny. Let me get this straight killing poor defenseless elephants for their tusks will make one a better killer? Huh? I can see going of other poachers but not killing elephants. Its really hard to miss an elephant. Read Warrior's Edge. Avoid this one.

I liked the acid bath part of the plot in this novel, which is a CIA and SAS men gone bad who uses a drug to extract information from spies so they can sell information to corrupt clients. This leaves the victim permanantly brain damaged and eventually dead, making this two reasons why Bolan needs to stop these conpirators. A third reason Bolan is involved is to help Baptiste overthrow Wadante in a country in Africa. Wadante is in league with the other two, and the action starts with Bolan helping the rebels in Africa. The best part of this book is when the action shifts from Africa to England, this is the part of the book that really shines. Good scenes and action there. The story shifts back to the African country where an ending similar to the one in Sudan Slaughter takes place. Some decent battles and mayhem close out this action packed book. Just good enough to rate a 7.

Well, is book was a very promising one at the beginning with a chance of having a great plot and a major mystery for Bolan to figure out but no, the plot was thin, not interested and badly written. The book kept going from one part to another without answering questions like how, who and why making it flat and predictable in every way. The concept of the acid bath was great and it could have a major issue for this book and made a unique one but the acid bath was only a minor part of the book just like the "horrible" dictator Wandte and I really didn´t understand why he was supposed to be "horrible" as it was never really shown in the book. To put it in simple words.....This is not an interesting book from my point of view!!!!

A decent enough entry to the series.

ANOTHER GOOD ONE BUT THE DICTATOR WOULD HAVE BEEN A WORTHY BOLAN OPPONENT. COME TO THINK ABOUT IT, ALL THE MAJOR ENEMIES WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD OPPONENTS. THEY JUST GOT DISPOSED OF TOO QUICKLY.

An okay book, but I'm not crazy about this writer.
