Ice Wolf

Well after a good start this one pretty much continued a slow nose dive until the very brief ending. I very much enjoyed the start where the Big Guy is called in to assist Leo as people within the Witness protection scheme are being killed off at a rapid rate pointing to a mole somewhere within the scheme itself. The continued use of the Black Ace persona named Omega is getting very boring hello surely someone has survived and knows that it is a load of crap by now within the Mafia ranks. When it is revealed who is doing it and more to the point why you just have to take a backward step and say to yourself whoa hang on that is ridiculous. Action scenes pull this one out of the abyss with some very good reading to be had as the Big Guy realizes very quickly that he is not up against a mob of clowns but some very well trained opposition. The overall plot throwing back to the crumbling of the third Reich at the end of the second World war and Rommel was good initially but fades quickly when you read what these Nazi clowns actually have in mind to do. The ending was rushed and unfulfilled leaving a sense of what could have been when you finish the title. Recommended read I guess just.

This is an odd book, I really did enjoy it a lot despite one or two things that kind of irked me. The whole killing witness protection program people as a means of deflecting security from the American president and Gorbachev seems a bit off. The middle section of the book where he confronts the Mafia man over the witness protection killings seems somewhat out of place in the book. It started to seem like there was too much going on: assassination attempt on world leaders, Nazis, Ris hunting Helene, etc... and then trying to distract from the assassination plot by telling the Mob they knew where the witness was hiding and they would off him if they paid them, but they were only really doing this as a means to distract from their actually plot. The whole World War II/Nazi aspect is kind of odd also. However, I give Odom credit for the rather interesting prologue with Rommel and the flashbacks to the villain's childhood. I like to see a little experimentation/doing something odd everyone in a while. With that all said, I still liked the book a lot. Odom's writing hits the mark in all the right places. It's tightly written and really sucks you in. Definitely an enjoyable Bolan novel that I would say is an above average outing.

How easy it is to ruin a great potential reading with inconsistency in the writing, plot and timeframe? Well sadly this was the case with this book all though it had a huge potential with a story line what was great and unique in a certain way. The villains were very stupid and confused and instead of building up this grim menace that had been working up a hate for 40 years, we have instead a love sick puppy running around and using his time to find is "lover"/sister instead of executing his plan with some better results. One of the burning questions regarding the plan must be why involving the Mafia in it????????????? There were a lot of inconsistency in the plot and it was never explained why and how Bolan´s cover was blown in the beginning and the plot kept on being confusing as the book progressed after an explosive start and the climax..............well, there wasn´t really any climax as this was a shortie and the finally came fast and left nothing to remind about it for the future. The plot part of killing the people in the Witness Protection Program did take too much part from the whole story and therefore it would have from my point of view made the book more interesting to have the plot only about the Witness Protection Program instead of the thin, dull and inconsistent Nazi plot. This book was a huge disappointment and it proves that you should never judge a book by the cover. (2003)

Not a bad book. I really liked how Leo Turrin had a really big role in the novel and how he was involved in the witness protection program. I also liked the enemies although they were unbelievably dumb. What precisely was the point in killing people in the witness protection program and getting money to do the hits by the mafia? Except for Leo the Justice Department really didn't notice it. I can think of a whole lot of easier ways this 4th Reich group could have made money. Ris' caretaker didn't know that Helene and Ris were brother/sister? Helene was in a sexual relationship with her brother and even though there were about 4 scenes focusing on her we didn't know it? Ris also was a rather dull villian. I hate more then anything else a rescue or stopping of a plot withen seconds to it being pulled off. Very cheesy and very unbelievable. Mack stopping Ris from killing the presidents and Gorbechev at the last possible moment was very unbelievable. Also I really liked the scenes with Hal and that rising agent. It was interesing reading how Hal is put on the spot about Mack and how he has to cover for him. OVerall a very average book. The best scenes were with Leo and Hal. The ending was horrible, the nazi's were idiots and the incest angle could have been dumped. I do not know how accurate the portrayel of General Rommel was. I will assume Mel Odom portrayed him accurately. The first chapter was a very interesting scene showing the last night in Rommel's life. Read the book for the Hal and Leo scenes. Even the mafia scenes are good. It would have been a far better novel focusing on the killing of the witnesses then a silly 4th Reich novel.

This story is faster paced and more action oriented than Death Wind was, Odom again displays times where his writing is as good as the best of them, a great read, with some minor flaws mentioned already by MaxDanger's review, but definitely a book worth grabbing, I liked it.

Bolan is back in D.C.. He shows up to help his old friend Leo Turrin investigate the murders of several members of the Witness Protection Program, but ends up saving the world from the Nazis. The writing on this is very good. Some of the action scenes were a little hard to follow, as the descriptions of the locations were lacking at times. On the whole, though, the writing was good. The plot, too, was mostly good. However, there were some inconsistencies. Bolan's cover was blown way too early. He is tagged by the enemy and watched by them far sooner than possible. Also, the Nazi's plot was somewhat far-fetched. The whole "kill the Witness Protection people in Washington D.C. so they won't tighten presidential security" was ludicrous. And Bolan must have set an air-speed record for his jaunt to Cairo in the middle of the crisis. All that aside, the book was still a page turner, and kept interest high from beginning to end.

Great action & suspense. A must read.

I LIKED THIS ONE A LOT AND IT HAD SOME NICE SURPRISES. I JUST WISH THAT THE END SUSPENSE COULD HAVE BEEN BUILT UP JUST A LITTLE MORE INSTEAD OF JUST HAPPENING SO FAST.

This one starts out kinda slow and I didn't think I'd like it. The introduction and setup scenes were a little confusing, though the action scenes are killer and the climax is surprising.

A total classic! The action was fast and furious, along with the climax shootout in the end.
