Kill Zone

1 star added for the finish here with a title that I would consider as forgettable. Long passages where nothing happens in this title and basically it is a boring read. The two female characters included are okay and I liked how quickly the Big Guy slips into the sack with one of them (hey there is only one bed right!) :-) One star added for the finishing section which drags this title out of the depths but hey nothing to recommend here folks. One mention of note the last of the 250 page titles in the series down to 220 pages from here on guys. Read it if you have to.

Kill Zone was going along great until the last few chapters, when everything kinda falls apart. The lead villain (who isn't even portrayed as being that bad a guy) dies without any flash or even consequence - he's more or less shot off screen by a supporting character. As mentioned earlier, Mack does too much driving around rather than just taking out the baddies as usual - even when he knows their location, as well as the lab's. Some parts were well written though. The two women opperatives were interesting and rahter than straight out violence, both used sex as their main weapon. I also liked Mack using the outdated weaponry throughout the book, particularly the use of the Panzerfausts. Kill Zone could have been much better had it wrapped up with more consequence, as it is, it's only marginally worth a read.

This one is a good all around story, but not a real spectacular entry in the series. A couple cool scenes in here like Bolan blowing up a Libyan patrol boat from a rubber raft using panzerfausts. And the end he uses a cool sniper rifle to pick off some guards at the island base. I wish I had a map of southern France to look at, most of the action takes place in that area, with a lot of towns mentioned that I never heard of. A decent book from Furst.

Good Bolan romp. Bolan is in Europe and is approached by another US secret service, the Fox Den, for his help is shutting down a new heroin pipeline. Two lovely ladies assist Bolan. The agent from the Fox Den goes undercover with the Union Course leader of the smuggling operation, while a French police woman (whose undercover role is that of a fashion model) helps Bolan search France for the heroin refinery. Very good writing. The author seems to have a real feel for Bolan. Even better, he doesn't limit himself to Bolan's point-of-view for the entire novel. We see action through his allies eyes, which is a refreshing change. The enemies are well-developed, and one is even a hold-over from the author's recent SuperBolan. The description of the weapons is priceless. Bolan's thoughts on the Beretta submachine gun need to be read to be fully appreciated. The plot moves along nicely, although there were times when it seemed all Bolan did was drive back and forth. Other than the occasional pacing problems, the book it very good, and comes highly recommended.

A typical adventure. Nothing new or spectacular.

The first book I read by Carl Furst, and I wasn't impressed. It was just a so-so adventure.
