Vietnam Fallout

I would have to agree with previous reviewers where I certainly enjoyed the first half of the title more than the second half. From when he arrives back in Vietnam the title plods along and you struggle thinking to yourself who am I actually reading about here as it certainly is not the Big Guy. Waking up from a dream screaming ? Nah ! So besotted in a female he loses all concept of what he is supposed to be doing ? Nah ! Losing control of himself and sprinting along a jungle path ? Nah ! Waiting for daylight to attack an armed camp so he can see what he is doing ? Nah ! I did like the references to Colonel Griffith and the similarities to the Apocalypse Now movie Brando character. All in all a very much middle of the road title which has it's moments. Up to you if you decide to read this one.

The first half of the book is a lot better than the second half, it should be the other way around. Overall it ends up as an average read.

Bolan returns to Vietnam. This book has Bolan trying to avenge the death of a fallen comrade by heading to Vietnam, his old killing grounds. The book lacks consistency. Bolan is overcome with emotions as he returns to Vietnam, but he has already been back since the end of the war (see Executioner #43, "Return to Vietnam"). It also has Bolan teaming up with rapists, figuring some help is better than none. It doesn't ring true to Bolan's character. His whole reason for returning to Vietnam is shaky. Bolan is out to aveng a buddy, but his friend is barely described before he is wasted. The whole book rings false. Bolan is a lot less sure of himself in the jungle than he should be. The book works, but only barely. Action scenes are nice, but the plot is definitely below par.

I would have to agree with Glenn. It would have been better if it wasn't a Bolan book. For one thing the book revealed Mackenzie as a real good friend of Bolan's. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't ever remember this friend of Bolan's before. I know we don't know all of Mack's friends, but as many times as Bolan's been in New York & to never hear of this guy before is hard for me to imagine. Another thing is that we are told that Bolan had a love interest in Nam that was Vietnemese, how come we never heard that before? This book also made it look like this is the first time Mack has been back to Nam. Besides all that it is a good book. If you have never read it before, read it & just pretend it's not Bolan.

This would have been a good story if it wasn't a Bolan novel. As a Bolan story it didn't work so well, with Bolan having nightmares over 'Nam and waking up screaming. It also gave the impression that Bolan hadn't done anything for a long while and this was his first mission in eons, plus it gave the idea that this was his first return to South East Asia since the Vietnam War, discounting the earlier novels such as Return to Vietnam, Cambodia Clash and Devil's Horn. Otherwise it was a good story.

A decent entry. The Vietnam ties is what really made this story somewhat interesting.

ONE OF MY PERSONAL FAVORITES! CARLUCCI AND GRIFFITH ARE JUST AS EERIE AS CAN BE. IT WAS GOOD TO SEE BOLAN BRING JUSTICE TO THEM, EXECUTIONER STYLE!

This one was a let down. It started out good and had the potential to become a really good one, but dropped it after the assasination. I think that the author of what to do next. The ending was terrible. All in all it could of been improved.

So-so. Not one of the best.
