The peace talks in Paris have reached a stalemate: The North Vietnamese refuse to discuss anything until U.S. bombing is halted. President Johnson demands a plan that will bring the enemy to the table- one that doesn't require a cessation of bombing or escalate the war. On paper the plan seems flawless: Send a hand-picked team into Hanoi to kidnap General Giap, to prove that the U.S. can go anywhere and do anything- forcing the enemy to the talks. U.S. Army Special Forces Captain Mack Gerber knows that a perfect plan concocted by the chairborne commandos usually turns into a first-class boondoggle. Still, it's his job to make it work. With only a rough schedule of Giap's movements, Gerber and his team penetrate the steaming jungles south of Hanoi and then the concrete battlefields of the city itself. But when they come face-to-face with Charlie, Gerber discovers the mission has more leaks than 100-year-old plumbing.
