Blood and Thunder

This author's first title and a pretty good one to start off with. Some good characters introduced throughout the title especially some of the bad guys. The overall Indian background to the title was well done and the old Chief with his young brave and wondering how things were going to turn out with the Big Guy his visions etc. was interesting and not over done. The body count was kept down here which is something this author tends to get carried away at times with his titles. So overall and OK title which is worth the read.

Ok did the old Indian shaman miss the line for his Destroyer role and entered into the Executioner novel by mistake? It is obvious that he fits into a Destroyer novel not an Executioner novel. A "vision thing" about a man that will come and save the indian village is totally out of place with an Executioner novel. I kept expecting Remo to show up at any minute. The villians were good especially the snake loving Engels. I also loved how Mack dealt with the fiancee and later with that indian young man. I especially loved how he wanted to punch that young man when he froze in battle with a RPG. It was very realistic. I hated the ending though. Very contrived with the fiancee just happening to show up out of the blue to kill Travers. That desert was large and her to just happen upon Mack and the others didn't make sense. I also hate when the bad guys capture the hero and do they kill the hero right away? Nope? Do they tie him up? Nope? Do they think of a perverted way to kill the hero? Yup. Sorry but when Mack was captured they should have instantly just shot him not transport him to the snake pit giving him ample time to figure out an escape. A slightly above average story brought down by the shaman's vision which did not fit in this series and a really contrived ending. A very solid 7. Read Devil's Horn a far better Schmidt novel and one of my favorite books of the series.

I totaly loved this book! I was very impressed with the authors' first entry in the Bolan series. None of Schmidts' novel I've read since come close to this one unfortunately IMO, but he shows here how good a writer he can be. One of the best Bolan books ever.

I disagree with some of the other reviews. This was one of the weaker book in the #90s. Still enjoyable (very much) but not as good as some of the others.

A slam-bang action-packed entry. Very entertaining.

Schmidt was one of my favorite writers. The whole book was awesome.
